horion70 1 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Hi everyone. I have a lot of mp4 video files with embedded tags into a Mix content Library. There is an issue with the comment tag which shows the description. Ιt seems emby server don't fetch it at all, so it doesn't appears in library video contents I have disable all online metadata providers so emby can fetch only the embedded tags. I have tryed manual update Library several times with all 3 options. If i enter them manual via metadata editor, they appears until next Library update, then dissapears. Any idea if this is a bug or emby does not support the comment tag? 1
Luke 42083 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 We don't really do anything with it. We do supper the description embedded but I think it's in a description tag, not comment.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 I do this for some of my libraries that do not have metadata providers Using Mp3Tag - can be used with Mp4 and Mkv files I put the "Comment" in the "PodCastDeSc" field instead and this is read by Emby Title, Genre, Year and Copyright(Studios) also work Just tested in latest beta and still works there as well as Stable server e.g. - extended Tags view in Mp3Tag In Emby Studio 1 & 2 can be seen in the metadata edit screen For Info - if you are not familiar with Mp3Tag - you can use actions to copy the data from Comment to PodCastDesc Tag fields - so you could load all your Mp4's in one go and copy the data across etc 1
horion70 1 Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 Thank you very much for the answers @@PenkethBoy Yes, I also see it in MP3tag editor. It seems that emby reads "PodCastDeSc" and not "comment" tag @@Luke - Any plans to implement "comment" tag in emby ?
Luke 42083 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Is that commonly used though for descriptions? or is that just you?
horion70 1 Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 I don't really know, maybe there are more people than me. As i can understand the mp4 does not contain any tag "description" other than "comment", and the extended Tag "PodCastDeSc", maybe the "comment" tag it is a subtitute to "description".
Luke 42083 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 can you provide a sample video for testing? thanks.

Depends on what you use to tag your mp4 files. MKVtoMP4 1
horion70 1 Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 @@Happy2Play - thank you, yes indeed, i just test it. But my files are already encoded. @@Luke - thank you luke, here it is a sample file https://www.dropbox.com/s/2tvyf3yw0eql6se/Inside%20Einstains%20Mind.mp4?dl=0
Luke 42083 Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Ok. My concern is that if i start having the server pull data from there, then other users are going to complain about their overviews being populated with junk data.
horion70 1 Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Yes, youre right, it's possible. May i suggest to implement this as an option? like the switch in library's advanced option "Prefer embedded titles over filenames"
Luke 42083 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Yes it's possible for the future, thanks.
