Metadata download problem

Recommended Posts

I have been using emby server for years and a problem has cropped up a few weeks ago that doesnt seem to be resolving itself.  The server does not seem to be identifying and downloading metadata or images for any media when it is added to the library folders.

Additionally, no results are ever presented whenever I try to manually use the identify function for any media or even when I use the search for images function on media that has been previously identified.

Finally, it seems also that my 'check for application updates' scheduled task is not completing succesfully.  I am wondering if maybe these issues are connected?

I'm running Version 3.5.2.0 on a windows server box.

The log files include a couple of the 'check for application updates' failures and a manual refresh of metadata for 'Black Panther' & 'Avengers: Infinity War'

Thanks...hopefully this is enough to point you in the right direction.

Hi @@NovaBiele, all of your outgoing communications are failing, not just to metadata providers but also our checking for updates. I notice you have setup a windows service. Why not stop that and just run the server normally as a tray icon, and see if that helps? If it helps then it points to a configuration problem in the service that you set up.

If it doesn't help then most likely you may have some security software or firewall blocking the network communications. please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

Thanks for the quick reply.  I've already tried disabling the service and running emby server normally with no improvements along with disabling windows firewall.  I'm going to look into some options tonight--but I did recently upgrade my router which makes me think the problem may be something with its configuration.

I'll post back if i find out anything

OK...so I have still not made any progress after trying a few things....

I completely disabled windows firewall, problem persisted.

I disabled my router firewall, problem persisted.

I put the emby server in the router's DMZ, problem persisted.

I reset the router to factory settings, restored port forwarding for 8096, disabled its firewall again, problem persisted.

Additionally, before doing any of this, I tried accessing many of the URLs from the emby server logfile that were triggering the errors & they all loaded fine in Chrome. (as far as I could tell)  Next I plan on connecting my emby server directly to my FiOS ONT to remove the router from the equation, but I cannot do that until everyone in the house agrees to live without the internet for a few minutes.  After that I really have no more ideas.

No new programs have been installed that might be causing any conflicts.  No other existing programs are having connectivity issues.  I guess I can look into the recent windows updates, but i'm really grasping at straws here.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
