Can emby actually play 4k video?

I have a 4k video, and every time I play this, emby is completely unresponsive. Only the task manager can force emby to stop. I run emby in Windows server2016, so many transcodes have been tried. Windows server2016 is virtual via esxi6.7 on a dell t630 server. I want to ask if emby can't play 4k movies? Is it because my transcode Settings are not set? Or something else? My movie is name“Lucy.2014.BluRay.2160p.x265.10bit.HDR.4Audio.mUHD-FRDS.mkv”,windows server Display card is“vmware svga 3d”。What should I choose for my transcode mode? My t630 server has no graphics card, all esxi virtual。

Hi, of course emby can play 4k.

The real question is, is your server capable of transcoding 4k hevc? This is a very costly process and requires some horse power. What CPU do you have?

If your system is not capable of transcoding 4k hevc then you will want to limit your playback to emby apps that can direct play it without transcoding.

Does this help?

my cpu is Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2603 v4 @ 1.70GHz,can transcoding 4k hevc?Excuse me, first of all, which mode should I choose in the transcode option? Second, if I can't transcode 4k, how can I limit playback, how can I embed an app that plays directly without transcoding? I use clint is android, TV and emby theater

I would leave all of those settings on default. Emby theater can direct play nearly all files. Android TV can direct play quite a few as well, although there will still be some instances where it needs transcoding.

No matter which one I choose or choose no, this file will crash when playing, so I really want to get guidance, which one should I choose according to my transcode mode?

I have tried the "intel quick sync" and "Nvidia NVenc" and "video acceleration API" modes before, but there isn't a 4k movie that allows me to play smoothly. Every time I play this movie, the entire emby server will Crash. And this 4k movie can be played with the windows potplayer player. The wiki says you can choose the default “auto”, but my default is “none”,There is no "auto" option

Thank you very much, I downloaded the attempt, the result seems to be similar, but I accidentally moved the movie to a different English directory and it seems to be able to play. Previously it was a Chinese directory, which may be related to Chinese and English directories. And I am in China, our network is controlled by the government can not access google play, so my sony TV can not access google play, can only randomly search for download emby for Android tv program, I hope  give me a download link, I can download the apk for Android tv and install it manually on a Sony TV. @@ebr

The app may not work without access to the store.  Definitely won't without Premiere.

I hope that we can give Chinese users a convenience. Our network is almost difficult to access many websites. If we don't give us a separate apk, we can't download them at all. Not only is the network closed, there is no google system inside our Android system, and we can't install google play. Although I am now Premiere. Can you give a hope?

Is Premiere able to validate properly?  I'm afraid, if there are too many restrictions, there won't be much we can do.

Can be verified correctly, this is no problem, the biggest problem for our Chinese users is that they can't access google play, so they can't download the software.
