Just a reminder, You'll be able to sort collections from the detail screen in the upcoming Emby Server 4.8.

So is it still not possible to do custom sorting on collections? I'd really like to switch from Plex to Emby, but this is pretty much a blocker for me. I have a number of collections (e.g. the HALO audiobooks) where I need to do custom sorting.

Was this released in 4.8 as noted? I can't find how to do this...

Yes, but how do I order the items that are in the collection? There's no drag and drop or explicit order anywhere to be seen.

I'd like to have a custom order for sorting items in a collection. While using a sort title would achieve a similar effect, sort title is universal and would affect the order across the entire library. Ideally, I'd like the option to either drag and drop to reorder the items or have a collection-specific sort title.

Would love to see these new "Sort By" options to be available in the metadata options per collection.  Or at least a way to manually establish a set "order" for the items in a collection, even if that functionality was only exposed via API.

This is a huge limitation for getting anything like acdb.tv, or any other tooling for custom collections to be comparable to what is available on Plex + Kometa.

The set order is what’s in the metadata editor. There ate just currently only two choices.

Collections can currently only be sorted by Album, Artist, Community Rating, Date Added, File Name, Runtime, Title, Release Date, and Year.

When sorting a library, there are additional options for Bitrate, Container, Critic Rating, Date Played, Director, Framerate, IMDB Rating, Parental Rating, Plays, Random, Resolution, Runtime, Size, and Video Codec.

Why aren't these available for collections as well? I understand that a lot of them make little sense as a default collection order (though Album and Artist make no sense when sorting a collection of movies, either), but they should all be available when viewing  a collection and in the Home Screen Editor.

There's also no way to filter collections, it would seem. I'd really like to filter my “1,001 Movies You Must See Before You Die” collection to only show unplayed movies, and then sort by random to find something to watch, but currently I can't do that.

Why is this marked as completed?

Because the basic FR was completed.  You wish it to be expanded - which is fine - so we just add to the discussion here.

A handful of sort options were added and nothing was done about filtering. I'd call that “in progress,” not “completed.”
