bullerjonathan 21 Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 Hi there. I've got quite a lot of media on my server with an issue, quite a lot of it has to be transcoded to play on mobile devices and PCs without the Emby Theater application installed. My hosting server is not very powerful - however I have excessive amounts of storage. What would be the best way to make sure that all of my media can be played on most devices without putting the server under a very heavy load? What applications can I use to optimise my media, potentially having different versions for different resolutions? Thanks Jonathan
BIGDREY 2 Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 I run a i7 5820k 6 core CPU with 16GB of ram, a GTX 1050ti graphics card and have minimal issues if any transcoding while working on the PC. I also have quite a bit of storage though that can be relative. What are you currently you specs?
bullerjonathan 21 Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 The server is a Q6600 with 8GB of RAM and no graphics card, but I've got 10TB of storage in that machine. It's great at serving files and can handle multiple 4K direct play streams, but transcoding 720p kills it.
Guest asrequested Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 Use multiversioning, and include a version that has a low enough bitrate in an mp4 container with 2 channel AAC audio.
bullerjonathan 21 Posted September 9, 2018 Author Posted September 9, 2018 Is there a way to use multiversioning with TV episodes?
Luke 42085 Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 Not yet but it's planned for the future. Thanks.
