How do I force update all pictures?

Recommended Posts

I initially created my movie library with Swedish as the main language. I now wish to change the library to English and I've tried multiple times to make a library wide metadata update with the picture override option enabled. Yet some Swedish pictures remain. If I make a metadata update for individual movies then the pictures change correctly.

Hi, you did it exactly the right way. Perhaps those titles just don't have swedish images on Movie Db?

These are very popular movies. Think lord of the ring. Besides, I've done this library refresh 10 times now. And if I go in on a movie with a Swedish picture and I use the refresh metadata on that movie alone it updates the pictures as expected.

All movies have clearly been processed since all the other metadata have been updated to English Metadata. But the picture still linger.

We'd have to look at the server log to see what happened. Thanks.

This is still an issue for me. It's just a small annoyance buy I'd like to have it fixed. I've now located a movie that is now stuck on the Swedish poster even if I only update that movie. The movie is called 12 angry men. In Swedish it's called "12 edsvurna män". The title got updated correctly but the poster still remain with the Swedish title on it.

Maybe this can help locate the issue with the library wide scanning issue.

How do I trouble shoot this?

:EDIT: nvm, the movie updated now. still can't figure out why the library wide update fails to update the posters.

@@Karl Blixt, you can always use the image editor feature to select a new poster. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

library wide update fails to update the posters.

Emby never changes existing images unless you for a refresh metadata and select that option.

that's what I've done... multiple times. and if I refresh the movie individually it updates the poster correctly. but it's a pain to go through all of my movies individually and click for each one when a library scan should be enough.

Why do you feel something is wrong?

Scenario: my library is in Swedish with some Swedish titles and some Swedish poster and all summaries in Swedish.

Goal: download new metadata and pictures and refresh all Metadata so that everything is in english except for a few edge cases.

Prosedure: go to library settings, right click the movie library change the library to default to English metadata. Save. Right click the movie library again and press scan library. Select "replace all Metadata" and also enable "replace artwork" and proceed with the scan.

Expected result: the goal.

Real result: all summaries in english, all titles in English, some posters still in Swedish.

No matter how manny times I scan the library it fails to replace these posters for some reason, that's what I feel is wrong.

How long did you wait? Perhaps you just weren't patient and didn't give it enough time?

What metadata providers do you have enabled for that library? did you check them to see what data is available in your chosen language?

Posted

I've had this issue for months now, I've not fixed it because I like you though it would fix itself in the end but it hasn't. I've ran it multiple times over night.

My chosen language is English... Everything is available to English. I think I have all enabled except for fanart.

When I update metadata for each individual movie it refreshes the poster as expected. The issue is library wide metadata changes for posters specifically but only for some movies.

I think I have all enabled except for fanart.

Can you verify ?

Also have you used the lock features to lock any data?

Posted (edited)

I was wrong, all was enabled except for the open movie database.

Yes I have but not on very many and I am aware of this and I have excluded these from my problem and have handled these manually.

But let me be cristal clear hear because I've said this manny times in this thread:

An individual replace metadata scan for an individual movie succeeds with doing something that the library wide that that movie is in fails to do.

Do you have any locked titles?

Posted

Ok so the refresh process will skip over the locked titles. Does that clear this up?

Posted

I have unlocked titles that are being skipped in the library wide metadata refresh that has replace artwork enabled. So, no...

I've already stated that I don't have an issue with titles that I've locked. This was the first thing I checked for movies that had this problem with and after a few manual changes I realized that this could be an issue.

I could easily fix this by manually search for new metadata for each movie but I though that I'd help you guys out with a potential bugg.

This is not an issue with me not knowing how to use emby, I've set up everything correctly because like I've allready stated, **most movies refreshes correctly**

This is an issue with the library wide refresh of posters or potentially other artwork Metadata. Please take this seriously, I know it's a very small issue and a very specific issue, but there is no need to treat me like a 3 year old that have never investiged a problem before.

I just tried putting one of the movies in an entirely separate library and try to do a library wide search on that library. it successfully updated the poster to the English version when it was the only movie in the library. so this is only an issue in the context of larger libraries (mine is at 1400+).

I'm not able to reproduce this as refreshing from a library refreshes the whole library. @@Happy2Play can you?

Posted

Whatever, close this, I've given up. I've updated all of the titles I've had issues with manually. Everything was set up correctly, it's only an issue with large libraries.

Posted

I believe you, I am just trying to chase it down.

Since you are talking about re-processing an entire library are you seeing provider errors in your log? Could there be timeouts for so many requests?

Posted

Well, it's a difficult problem to chase down since this might even be specific to my system. But the only way that it could be reproduced is to have a large library, create it with a foreign language with good support and then change the language and rescan. I'll have a more through look in the logs tonight and see if I can see something wierd there.

so I made a new logfile and restarted the server and immediately made a library scan exactly like I've done for the past month and now the few remaining faulty posters is refreshing as expected.
