Share permissions required for Optional Network Path

As per the title, what share/NTFS permissions need to be set for Emby to make use of the Network Path in Libraries? Or should Read access be granted to Everyone, with password protected sharing disabled?

Oh, and how do I check whether clients are accessing the media directly?

Hi.  Only a few of the apps (like Emby Theater Desktop) will be able to access the shares directly and you probably will have to have it without password protection.

 

However, any of the other apps that have the capability to direct play that content will still be able to play it without any transcoding or other modification - the server will just feed the raw file to them via http.
