keithterrill 2 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Running Linux Mint 18. Emby came up in the browser but wouldn't work right. I uninstalled the emby server. I deleted the user and group for the emby. I created a new user and group for the emby. I downloaded emby-server-deb_3.5.2.0_amd64. I installed it using the debian installer. Now I cannot get it to come up in the browser. http://192.168.x.x:8096/ gives: This site can’t be reached192.168.1.134 refused to connect.
Luke 42078 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Hi there, can you please attach the emby server log? thanks.
keithterrill 2 Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 I cannot find a log. I don't believe the service started. I cannot figure out how to start it.
Luke 42078 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Can you supply the complete terminal output? thanks.
tdiguy 99 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I dont know if it is related but i remember someone else on the forum having an issue with emby that created the emby user first. If you dont mind humoring me delete the emby user, uninstall emby then re-install emby without making the emby user first.
Luke 42078 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Thanks. Let's see what the full terminal output says.
tdiguy 99 Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I cannot find a log. I don't believe the service started. I cannot figure out how to start it. After it is installed it should start automatically, since it is having an issue the following commands might be useful: sudo service emby-server status sudo service emby-server start the default directory for emby logs might be: /var/lib/emby/logs but when it comes to linux things can vary from distribution to distribution. I imagine it would be useful to try sudo emby-server start and paste the output here.

Solution keithterrill 2 Posted September 2, 2018 Author Solution Posted September 2, 2018 I figured out the problem. The emby was not fully installing. It failed because when I uninstalled and then removed the user:group the group emby was left. It had a "hidden" user of emby. Logging in to a terminal and then running: $ sudo deluser emby $ sudo delgroup emby Then reinstalling the emby... that did the trick. At lest we are now scanning libraries. 1
