Track level collections

Sometimes artists makes cover versions of other artists songs.

Collections looks like the instrument of choice to group said songs.

 

But collections only work at album level, not track level.

 

Would be good to have that feature, so I can group tracks under, for example, "Jimi Hendrix Covers".

Playlists?

Yes why not playlists?

That's what I'm using, but the collections concept look more fit. Similar to the "Grouping" concept of iTunes.

On the other hand, why collections then? Looks redundant with playlists.

Collections are groupings, not necessarily designed to play in a specific folder. It's more like a virtual folder.

Understood. Anyway, I still think grouping would be good for tracks.

 

Another way to do what I want is tagging. I can tag a song as a "Jimi Hendrix cover", and then view the tags like the genres or playlists view.

You can tag it now, and viewing by tags is planned for the future. thanks.

I know I can tag, but now they're unusable.

And it's good tag viewing is planned for the future, but since you can't guarantee an ETA for next version, it's a curiosity.

Collections and playlists essentially are the same thing, just with slightly different presentation.

Maybe a workaround while the future arrives is to tag it using a Genre tag.
