jmariani 24 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 After an hour waiting in vain for the "Music" page to show, I'm wondering when are you going to deliver a new version with improved performance...
Luke 42085 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Hi, I'm afraid we can't offer an ETA at this point, sorry.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 After an hour waiting in vain for the "Music" page to show, I'm wondering when are you going to deliver a new version with improved performance... How is your music setup that it takes an hour to show up in Emby? What exactly do you mean by it take and hour for the page to show up?
jmariani 24 Posted August 29, 2018 Author Posted August 29, 2018 Hi, Happy2Play. My setup is very simple. I have a 6TB Toshiba USB external drive attached directly (no hub) to a Mac Mini 2012, 2.4Ghz i7 processor with 16GB RAM, 1TB APFS boot drive (APPLE HDD HTS541010A9E662 Media) running Mojave Beta 8 (but this behavior also happened when running High Sierra) I'm running Emby 3.5.2, using the Web Client on Safari, at localhost. My music library is around 3TB. I have 38,813 albums. The Emby database (library.db) is 3.4GB The folder tree on the external drive is as follows: /Musique/Library/[A...Z]/Album Artist/Album I also process the music files with MusicBrainz (tagging, images, etc.) prior to adding them to the library. So, I don't know, but in the best days, Emby takes around 10 minutes to show the Albums page. Bad days like today, it took an hour. What exactly do I mean it takes an hour for the page to show up? 1 - Click on the Emby icon and select the "Browse Library" menu item. 2 - A new window/tab opens in Safari, and the Emby page shows up, with the "Library" and "Playlists" icons. 3 - Click on the "Library" icon, page transfers to the "Library" page, a changing colour circle appears, and, between 10 minutes or an hour, the album list appears. When looking at the log, all the queries to the database reads "(slow)", like the following 18-08-28 18:28:18.990 Debug SqliteItemRepository: GetItemList query time (slow): 3855ms Thank you for your attention.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 The folder tree on the external drive is as follows: /Musique/Library/[A...Z]/Album Artist/Album Where does the music library in Emby point to?
vaise 340 Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 (edited) 38 Thousand albums....... I cant imagine any home media system would think that a normal config. That would have cost well over $750,000 so I doubt that is an expected amount of music files for a home system which I believe emby is targeted at. Maybe an SSD would assist for the emby install libarary etc. Just for fun, a quick calculation - listening 8 hours a day would take you about 13 years to play it all. adrianwi 279 Posted August 29, 2018 Posted August 29, 2018 Maybe breaking it up into smaller libraries may help? Mine is about 1/6th of that and performance is acceptable.
jmariani 24 Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 I think I found a solution. Not the best one, but looks like it works. Since I have my album view ordered by DateCreated, I've just created an index on the database. Cheers. 1

Since I have my album view ordered by DateCreated, I've just created an index on the database. Cheers. That is a totally valid solution, and probably a pretty good one. IMO, there should be indicies for all sorting options to avoid behavior like this. I've run into similar issues with my music WAY back when with iTunes. I would blow up iTunes and moved to Mediamonkey and never looked back (it was the downfall of Apple in our household). I use Media Center Master heavily, and was told that my 2500+ movies and 11k+ TV shows was outside of their testing and expected usage scenarios. I had to break up my media into small libraries to use it, and then combine them afterwards. I am quite happy with how Emby handles it all though. With my 2TB of music and about 17k albums I'm happy I'm not the only one with excessive music FYI, my wife is a dance instructor and choreographer for a competitive team, so she is a big music lover and likes/needs a wide variety of music.
ebr 16190 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Hi. There are many database changes and optimizations in the next release currently in beta. Thanks.
jmariani 24 Posted September 3, 2018 Author Posted September 3, 2018 Hi. There are many database changes and optimizations in the next release currently in beta. Thanks. That sounds cool, but not having a clear roadmap of delivery is kinda (very) frustrating. Maybe adopting an Agile style of delivery instead of waiting for a big bang could be an approach. (You know, sprints delivering some features at once). Regards.

I know is valid, but you have to agree with me, you need to be tech savvy to implement it. That's why I'm saying "not the best one". "With my 2TB of music and about 17k albums I'm happy I'm not the only one with excessive music :D" You never can have enough music. "there should be indicies for all sorting options to avoid behavior like this." Totally agree Cheers!
Luke 42085 Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 We are working hard on our next release. Thanks guys.
