jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I have hundreds of movies setup with BoxSets like the "old" way: Alien vs Predator [boxSet] - Alien vs. Predator (2004) - Aliens vs Predator Requiem (2007) Some also have the [tmdbid=######] value as well appended. Seems now the only movies that show in the I guess we are calling it Collections now are the ones that I haven't put in this original layout. Wasn't sure if this was a Server setting or a Classic setting, however got the impression this functionality could be switched but the thread I have read so far didn't actually say how to switch it back. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, assuming if it can be switched back, it's one way or the other? Thanks. JR
Luke 42078 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 if you use the old way it's going to be a manual process in your folders. the new way is designed for quick and friendly editing in the web interface
jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 Thanks Luke, as mentioned considering my hundreds of movies already sorted the old way, and being a legacy MB2 user, looking for an answer to my original question. Can it actually be switched? Thanks. JR
Luke 42078 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 there's no automated way to switch between the two conventions, no.
jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 So this is kind of like my cable provider. As a new subscriber I can get the new deal but the existing customers out of luck and have to suffer. JR
Luke 42078 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Migration routines involve moving and changing user's media directories. Do you realize how much could go wrong there? People would not be happy if it doesn't turn out well. If you want to migrate it is better done manually.
jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) Reality is when someone decides to use a tool like MB and have to encode their movies and name them a specific thing so they get picked up, you are basically accepting a bit of work. Folder categorizing is the least work as maybe this is actually a non issue. Other then the collection menus the standard list of movies still groups boxset folderized movies together no? I'm cool with just turning off the collections menu items and just having the "Movies" list. Thanks. JR Edited April 6, 2014 by jriker1
jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 You can't disable the collections menu item can you? The genre collections yes but not the "Collections" one? Only thing I'm obviously not likening and can't figure out anything that will turn it off. Plus MB3 defaults to that page. Ugh JR
Luke 42078 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 if you delete the collections that are created within there, it will go away
pagali 62 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I wish we had the option of whether or not to show the separate "Collections" menu item. It's already a constant struggle to keep the home menu as streamlined as possible.

One2Go 120 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 After reading this topic I feel for the OPs dilemma and it raised a red flag with me & I am looking for some clarification. I searched for answers but could not find a definitive answers to the boxset handling. I have all my movies under a single share. That share has grouped movies that are my box sets and I would like them to appear in the movie stream rather then under a separate category of boxsets or collections. None of the grouped movie files have the tags of [boxset] or TMDB IDs. They all have customized artwork for poster images, ClearArt, Logo images as well as a folder.xml file. This is very well displayed in MB2. Since I am considering migrating to MB3 this topic raised a few questions, since a HTPC is not the only device reading my collection but also a Dune media player reads the collection structure. At present both are operational and only manual editing may be needed for newly added movies. 1. Since I use MCM for my meta data fetching, will MB3 read my present collection and display the already present artwork without requiring modification of the paths to the content? 2. I understand that in displaying the meta data the themes & CoverArt will apply overlays and other processing, is there a way to get the CoverArt treatment of MB2 in MB3? Finally, I looked in the server guidelines & tutorials but could not find something that would look like a migration tutorial, just setup & requirements for MB3. Can someone provide a link to best practices for MB2 to MB3 migration procedure.
jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) How do you get rid of the collections? I moved the three sets of movies that were showing in Collections into boxset folders and did an update library and an hour later the three sets of movies are still there under collections? EDIT: Wow. I physically moved the boxsets that are showing in Collections out of MB3's accessible folders and refreshed the library. Still there. Isn't there an option like MB2 where you could delete all the content and refresh or is because MB3 now seems to flood all the folders with lots of images they can't be deleted and rebuild the media library anymore? jriker1 20 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) OK I deleted the collections from the metadata manager, and moved the movies out of the movie folder. Exiting and entering the MB program wasn't adequate for it to go away. Collections was just blank. Had to physically turn off the xbox, then when I turned it back on it was gone. Yeah!!! One2Go 120 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Any comment on my 2 questions from the above posting.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 1. Since I use MCM for my meta data fetching, will MB3 read my present collection and display the already present artwork without requiring modification of the paths to the content?Turn off the Internet Providers under Metadata in the Dashboard. The server will use your MCM data. 2. I understand that in displaying the meta data the themes & CoverArt will apply overlays and other processing, is there a way to get the CoverArt treatment of MB2 in MB3?Install the Coverart plugin. I believe it is a server plugin in MB3.
mariors44 18 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 jriker1: go to C/users/your name/AppData/Roaming/MediaBrowser-Server/Data... and delete library.db file. This will delete your library info, then restart the server. The server will rebuild your library which will take a while to do, it all depends on how big your library is. AS far as boxsets go I have always done mine manually and never had a problem with mb2 or mb3. I have my movies and boxsets in the same folder that way I just use the movies entry (I use list view). I to have my boxset setup the old way, all I did was add the word collection to the title like this Alien vs Predator Collection [boxSet] and everything comes out fine for me. I hope this helps.

ebr 16178 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Again thanks for the confirmation, I read some comments regarding custom treatments of images and it wasn't clear if the MB2 treatments were available for MB3. Custom treatments are not supported in CoverArt 4 if that is what you are asking. They were a very little used feature that were a performance and memory hog so I did not include them when I did the re-write.
