Card Titles Missing

If it is a mistake, what a glorious mistake. I love the thumb view with the transparent text area. That just looks.. material. Minimal, clean, non-distracting. Nothing present that isn't required. Clean. It just looks polished. The card view brings me back to android, and android TV interface. It looks dated. It doesn't look material design. The see through transparent if it wasn't supposed to have text, please let it stay as an option, maybe "thumb" "thumb text" "thumb card" .. because I love the look of the minimal thumb view with text. If it was consistent across every screen I would use the web client all the time.

Sorry - but you are explaining yourself very badly and those images look the same - but comparing a screen grab is not a good way to compare and the shark and 3 hours images are probably poor to start with

Yes card view are redundant as all they do is move the text to be left justified from center

Genre view is fixed format so nothing we can do with that.

Genre view has an extra play and shuffle button, otherwise could fit the exact design as the original movie screen template. It feels so clumsy in use going from the movie screen sort to the genre screen sort. The genre screen makes these horrible android interface style popups you select stuff from. Where are the radio buttons and simple things the movie screen has?

I don't mean genre, in the sense of the genre laid out in rows. I mean when you click into the genre and it shows a grid. That grid has no totals, has no sexy sort icons, it looks and the interface mechanisms are just shoddy. Not to knock that part, but genre is the poorest part of the web client now. It just is slow, clumsy and looks like.. well.. like it works.. poorly.

You also haven't seen my pictures I guess. How can you not see the difference?

Thumb Card view adds an opaque overlay behind the text, and makes it look like.. an android TV card..

Thumb doesn't add that opaque overlay and lets the text rest on the background, and looks more like apple TV...

Top: Thumb Card --- Bottom: Thumb

its clear.. if thumb wasn't meant to have text, my part is.. omg, you stumbled upon greatness if that was a mistake.. @@Luke?

...and correction.. I am using blue radiance theme. It is in the dashboard I am using WMC theme. Maybe that comes into play?

New style screen? here is the Thumb with it's mysterious "Show Title" button. You click an icon to change things (aka a chooser) to get to another menu you have to open to see the choices (making this part also a chooser?) before you can finally get to the choices (aka the picker where you make your final choice and it saves).. it now takes an extra click to do things. Wonderful..

Here is the old style with the quicker way to choose. One click to change. Very intuitive. The top screen takes 2 clicks to change things. Once to highlight the item and get the picker. The second click to pick from the picker. Notice on the old style screen above as soon as you click into the chooser a picker appears. Not another chooser..

Please tell me these dialogs requiring extra clicks are not the new style going to appear? Make these fit the style of the already existing movie screen. Use the same icons. Keep the same look. Don't go to this "hey lets look like android" look which is how that genre sub-screen menu system feels. It feels clumsy, just like android.

Instead of that "Show title" button at all just add two new styles "Poster title" and "Thumb title". Easier to do code wise.

How does the theater ui compare? http://tv.emby.media

That fixes the issue also as it is the same as the Genre layout.

So then once the web app gets updated with the same layouts, it will have the same changes. thanks.

Well no, now its got a different issue...

The way you select now takes extra button presses, creates its own screen that is obnoxious as an overlay. Has little things you have to click to open things. It takes more. Why didn't you just use the old way it was using on the movie screen for sort menu stuff? with the same icons, instead of this .. oddball one.. that now uses bold on the text and no icons.. so far removed from sexy it is.. the old way is much better, cleaner, more intuitive.. just more cleaner.. easier to use.. less clicks.. I can go on...

I am saying this because.. OMG.. really.. get ready for a ton of complaints about the same thing once that hits the main movie screen. Its slower now to click through that, and the dialog doesn't come right up. You get the dialog with drop downs for each. Now click to open teh drop down and choose. So the extra click is to open the drop downs to change. Rather than just simple radio buttons to choose and such? Why is more complex better?

because there are more settings now embedded into the view, and that means the settings dialogs have to expand in order to accommodate that.

prepare yourself for the deluge of complaints. mainly it spawns a new dialog so large it covers the entire emby window. Now when clicking out, it isn't quick as it was before. There is this initial lag, hang, before you can navigate the UI after you close the dialog that wasn't there with the old. I know when you change things it has to refresh the screen to match the choices. But it should snap back, and let you navigate as it does this. It does on the movie screen right now. But on genres (which is the new view) it doesn't. It is painfully slow and stalls the windows pointer/cursor from even displaying (just like a hung app does) over the browser window until its ready. This is what I mean as clumsy. There needs to be some optimizing done there before you make the switch. Something is dragging down performance. Check for yourself.

genres will be considerably faster with the next server release.

Also think the old style is much better. Would it not be possible to combine the two into something like this ( though more elegant obviously...)

...sorry about the wasted space

well that's basically what the new dialog is already doing. select list for style followed by checkboxes for other options.

is not

One click opens to each of the screens above. The top screen requires multiple clicks to change things. The second screen is presented in a way that allows single click changes.

sort of like this below, my mspaint attempt but ya know, make it look cleaner/straighter. See how intuitive that looks the options displayed when you open the menu. Not your present choice displayed you must click to open to see choices. Make things take less work for users to use and more users will use it.

So the complaint is a drop-down box vs a list view, one extra click to open the drop-down box.  But everyone has there own preference, personally the new layout will be better.

Sorry two clicks as you have to close the Filter menu/back out.

Well there are bigger problems in the world but surely this has to be pretty near the top  :)

The way the sort looks compared to the old, is ugly. Now I know you want to show, what the sort and such is.. So show it, just don't show it as part of the icons one clicks to change them. Keep the old neat, clean, tidy icons and not the messy top bar that is there now. Thats what I mean. In allowing the present "state" of each option to show as the "icon" creates clutter. It doesn't look clean. Add some wording below like androidTV and such does "Descending by Name" or "Ascending by Release Date". I can see 1995 called again. They said, this time they demand their UI problems back.. :)
