Question about my custom restart script

Hi!

I recently upgraded (reinstalled) from the mono version to the newest .net version. Everything works fine now, except for chromecast. Every user reports lag problems with their chromecast, and my own chromecast lags as well. It plays between 20 sec to 3 minutes, and then hangs for a few seconds before it continues.

Some more details:

  • Server now runs on Ubuntu 18.04, but the problem also occurred while it ran on Ubuntu 16.04 (I upgraded today to see if it helps).
  • The problem doesn't occur if I play movies on the phone or in any browser - only with chromecast.
  • It doesnt matter if it's direct playing, or transcoding - the lags occur either way.
  • With high bitrate, the lags occur  more frequently. With low bitrate (I tried transcoding to 1 mbit) the time between lags seems to increase, but they still occur.
  • This problem never occurred with the mono version of emby (I was on the latest version which was provided for ubuntu).
  • It is not a bandwith issue, because it lags even with transcoding to 1 mbit.
  • I also did a speedtest on my chromecast with the SpeedCast android app - It showed between 28 and 30 mbps on the chromecast.

I attached a server log which starts around the time i started a movie (direct-play on chromecast), and ends at the first lag.

Hi there, can you please attach the complete emby server log? Thanks !

Hi! Thanks for the reply, but I think I fixed the problem. It had something to do with a custom script which checked if the emby-server was running, and restarted it if not. After the upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 this script didn't work correctly anymore, and restarted the server every 2 minutes or so...

There are still some playback issues on chromecast, but I think they are in fact bandwidth related mostly, so nothing that should concern you. There is however another problem with the emby-server, which makes it crash after running out of memory. But I'll describe that in a new topic.
