KodiaK 3 Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 It seems that Emby can't see files unless they are located in subfolders. I have 2 main folders used as paths for the libraries in Emby. One library is for movies which goes to a Movies folder on the PC, and the other one is a TV Shows library, which goes to a TV Shows folder on the PC. The problem is that, for example, in the TV Shows folder from the PC if i have directly files, they don't appear in Emby. The only way to make them appear is if i create a subfolder and place the files there. I come from PLEX where this was never an issue, so can you please tell me how to fix this?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Hi Yes at present Emby requires TV series to be in folders - see here for specifics - https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV%20naming Movies can be in one folder but you will get better performance if they are in sub folders as well - see here for specifics - https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie%20naming
KodiaK 3 Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 That's very disappointing to hear Any intention in fixing this?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Give you support to the appropriate feature request (like the first post) and it will get to the top of the list in the future. The dev's do not give timescales - so you will have to wait until then or re organise your folders - not a huge task with a simple script or two and you only need to do it once.
Luke 42083 Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Hi there, can you please go over a specific example? Thanks !
KodiaK 3 Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 Hello, Sure i can give a specific example in the attached screenshot. I have 5 folders in my TV Shows folder (!SERIALE) and a lot of individual files. As you can see in Emby only the folders appear.
Luke 42083 Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 hi there @@KodiaK, currently we do require tv series folders, and you can learn more by checking out our wiki: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV%20naming We plan to support a mish-mash in the future but we're not quite there yet. Thanks.
RobWayBro 28 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 I normalize all my folder/file names with respect to TV shows. So as the 'mis-mash' goes forward, please leave the existing alone. C:\Media\TV Shows\SeriesName\Season #\SeriesName - S0#E0# - Episode Name I have the option selected to save nfo and media files to the media folders. With this setup I have successfully moved to a new physical server with no problems concerning customization, images, metadata.
Luke 42083 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Yes that structure will always be supported, thanks.
RobWayBro 28 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Thank you much.. I give significant effort in naming my files, I like the organization. My movies, on the other hand, are all in one folder, but as I increase the number of Movies, I am considering additional folders as I have noticed others mention this can have a performance impact. FWIW, I use FileBot for my media renaming.
KodiaK 3 Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 It's not so easy when you have to create duplicates for all the TV episodes. Leave the originals in the downloaded location so i can seed them, and them create copies to suit Emby's needs. Another solution would be to reset the download location for each file, but it's very tedious. TBH i don't see any downside to a mish-mash support also, and should not be that hard, since PLEX already supports it
RobWayBro 28 Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 And I didn't ask for a 'mish-mash' to not be implemented, I just asked to keep the existing structure as well and identified what I do.
jaquestati 45 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 this is my biggest want/need as well... and the absolute only reason i ever find myself using plex anymore...the dozens of shows i get everyday get identified right away in plex... but for emby i have to go in make folders and move them into folders... which is just too much of a pain/time consuming to do on a daily basis, so i end up using plex for recent tv...so anyways... a big plus one for supporting mish mash... emby is such a better program/streams so much better for me i'd love to abandon plex for good... but for this one little thing: ) : (
dansblackcat 37 Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 From what I understand is emby isn't meant to make organising your illegal downloads easier for you. 1
KodiaK 3 Posted August 21, 2018 Author Posted August 21, 2018 (edited) But as long as they are movies it's OK Edited August 21, 2018 by KodiaK 1
