Navigating to Movies directory, server hangs and must be restarted.

Emby version 3.5.1.0

Gigabit symmetrical internet connection

 

 

Periodically (anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours) the Server becomes sluggish and outright stops responding. All of my client devices react the same, but for simplicity sake I am reporting the issue with the server's web interface.

When clicking the Settings in the upper right corner then clicking the Home icon in the upper left corner it takes me to the home screen where you should see your dashboard but instead all I have is "Home" and "Favorites" at the top.

I have checked Event Viewer and windows logs for Application and this is what it reports:

When Emby is unresponsive and I double click the tray icon to launch a new browser, it fails to connect and if I restart emby server I get an error message that it was unable to restart. I have to exit emby (tray icon remains) then start Emby from the programs folder. Any insight on how to fix this would be great. If I need to provide any more info please let me know, thank you in advance.

I disabled dnla earlier, when reading another post. it has had no affect, problem still exists.

I think going back a version or 2 might be good? I see a few issues like this on the forum since the update to 3.5

I completely uninstalled and reinstalled latest. still having the issue. bit frustrating since I sprung for the premiere and the large investment in the server.

Is there any other suggestions? I am running on the beta 3.6 right now and it is a little bit more stable but menu navigation is really slow, button links dont work half the time. I have to refresh the page or go to localhost:8096 just to get it to maybe work. 

 

I like Emby when it works, which was a bit over a week ago. It is unusable in this state and unfortunately I cant justify paying for Premiere and not being able to use even the basic software. I understand theres configuration and setup but this is getting to be far too much. 

 

Dare I ask for a refund on the Premiere? I didnt have any problems with Emby prior to purchase and things ran well up until a week ago.

Whilst I sympathise with your problems, please give luke a chance to look at these issues and investigate.  You only posted about it 1st 36hrs or so ago.

Some good news maybe........

Enabled Debug Logging. Cleared cache, files and browsing history in Chrome. Set display resolution lower (2560 x 1440) 

With these changes the menu has not been sluggish and every button press/link has worked as expected. the server has not crashed in the 15 minutes since doing this so I disabled debug logging and restarted Emby server.

emby server is still shutting down. the menu navigation seems good when the server is running.

It appears when any user is logged in navigating or watching content that the admin login starts to have trouble. menu begins to become unresponsive, many settings go missing (like Expert - log section, scheduled tasks, and so on) the moment the user pauses and clicks the back button the Emby server web interface begins to respond. and the missing menu sections appear. Almost as if the server cant handle the load of streaming and configuration. any thoughts? thank you

Emby Server is up to date

I am navigating to my Movies library locally, the screen shows a grid of 9 x 2 1/2 cover art. If I scroll down to see content beyond 36 (9 x 3) artwork is missing and theres a blank box with the name of the movie under it. It is at this time that the server becomes unresponsive, navigating to any directory, movie, settings, or anywhere, the screen goes white and I get the loading circle indefinitely until I launch the Emby Server again. If I do not scroll and I select from first 36 movies, the server does not hang, movies will play if they are one of the 9 x 3. I can reproduce the hang by navigating to Movies and then scrolling down. 
 
I have no plugins. I've cleared browser cache. Installed latest windows server 2016 updates, restarted server and emby server. There are no logs in Windows Event Viewer at the time (within 20 minutes) this occurs.

I rescanned the library, replacing everything. Any insight on this would be great. thank you

here is a link to previous issue https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/61203-web-interface-sluggish-then-server-crashes/&do=findComment&comment=603528 that seemed to be resolved by disabling a specific user. I randomly disabled one user and the issue stopped occurring. frustrating considering the user is configured the same way as the others. 

 

I'm sorry to be the voice of decent but Emby just has to be more reliable because this isnt functional and taking days to resolve major issues just isnt possible. I've exhausted every possible and recommended suggestion, except jumping ship. I've offered to pay for setup, I've provided logs, disabled plugins, dont even have plugins, completely installed server fresh. I'm open to suggestions but really, I dont see anything else at this point I've invested $5k into this server that is literally unusable with Emby. I am a bit frustrated yes, but if we can get a solution that I dont have to go back to every other week that would be acceptable.

well it seems I tracked down the issue.....

 

IF displaying as a "Poster" this problem occurs. ANY OTHER display(Banner, List, Poster Card, Thumb, or Thumb Card) the issue does not happen. 

 

It is frustrating since theres no mention in the logs of the error.

now, how do I get the other 5 users to not display Posters? 

 

This is absolutely maddening. Come on Emby. Can we please get this working its the start of the weekend. Is there a way to disable Poster display? Is there a way to set the library default view? something? anything?

There isn't a way to change the defaults but most screens have controls to allow you to change the image type that is shown.
