I've noticed that DTS audio is not being converted in several emby applications including Roku (BN works though), LG & Android TV apps.

So the media will play but there's no volume. Using server stable Version 3.5.2.0

Anyone else seen this / replicate it?

Here's your log file. Roku BN, ET, Emby for Android have sound. Roku, LG and Android TV do not.

I've seen it with more than one media file.

What audio equipment are you playing on?

The android for TV uses the TV speakers and the LG / roku are going through a Visio soundbar.

And none of those support DTS passthrough?

I'm guessing not. The android app is running off of a STB connected to the TV. Most of the other media i played was AAC i believe. If i hookup my laptop to the TV and use ET i get sound with DTS.

I just didn't see anything I could change to make it work with the other systems.

It's inconvenient but I can work around it.

As for the LG I didn't try it using the internal TV speakers but i can at some point.

Ok, we'll see what @@ebr thinks for Roku and Android TV. As far as LG goes, it is already planned for the future to create settings in the app to allow you to specify that it's not supported. There's no way as of now for us to detect this for LG. You can track this ticket here:

Thanks.

Hi.  Can you please play one of these items that has no audio in the Android TV app and follow the instructions to send a log from the app?

Thanks.

If you are not hearing sound, there must be an issue with the outboard equipment involved.  The system and the player report support for DTS:

08-17 16:33:44.136 3529 3529 I System.out: Reported device audio support is: ,ac3,eac3,dts,dca,dtshd
...
08-17 16:33:45.060 3529 3529 D EventLogger: Renderer:1 [
08-17 16:33:45.060 3529 3529 D EventLogger: Group:0, adaptive_supported=N/A [
08-17 16:33:45.060 3529 3529 D EventLogger: [X] Track:0, id=2, mimeType=audio/vnd.dts, channels=2, sample_rate=48000, language=eng, supported=YES
08-17 16:33:45.060 3529 3529 D EventLogger: ]
08-17 16:33:45.060 3529 3529 D EventLogger: ]
08-17 16:33:45.060 3529 3529 D Event

The only odd thing is, I don't believe I've ever seen a 2 channel DTS track before.  Perhaps the TV is not mixing it down properly due to that...

Also, what is this Android TV device?  I don't recognize it.

Telus TV Pik. I tried newer movies as well. Can't troubleshoot it any longer though as I was only with it for a week.

Okay, that's a specialized box for a streaming service that is only expecting Dolby audio so their DTS implementation may be incomplete.

Makes sense. Thanks for your help.

@@lorac, why you feel that it's not working in Roku? Can you please explain that? Thanks !

Because it wasn't At least on the LG TV w/ the Visio soundbar unless i play it in BN.

I can test with a couple other Roku's tomorrow and see what happens.

Was the soundbar hooked up via optical?

Yes.

In BN is the "Convert DTS to AC3" option set to yes?

Is this one of those situations where the roku detects dts as being supported even though the audio equipment doesn't?

Yeah, it might be one of those where using "Auto detect" on the Roku in the section "Settings>Audio>HDMI and S/PDIF" might need to be set to "Dolby D" or "Dolby D+" instead. It can't really use optical to detect anything so just throws everything at the wall. So in effect "Auto detect" really is just another word for "allow everything" in that case. This should solve the problem without having to dig deeper, at least on the roku side of things.

I think it is a combination of outboard equipment.  I think the TV does support DTS but, when sending it to a soundbar via optical cable, there isn't really a way to know if that soundbar supports DTS so the TV may just send it along untouched.

There may be a setting in the TV itself to handle this situation.

It turns out that for my LG TV with Visio soundbar the issue is for media with FLAC 7.1 (5.1 works).

I sent in a log about 15 minutes ago.

The same movie does work with the same model roku with a different Visio soundbar (no sub though).

It also works w/o any issue in BN.
