MonkeyJamboree 0 Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 (edited) Hey all! I was wondering if someone could help diagnose my issue here... I have Emby Server on Windows 10, and seem to be having issues with connecting to it from outside my LAN using BOTH Emby Connect and Here's my setup in Emby Server under Advanced: Version 3.5.2.0 Local and public http port number: 8096 Local and public https port number: 8920 Dynamic IP with DYNDNS and the External Domain set to http://<myhost>.dyndnss.net Enable automatic port mapping checked Allow remote connections to this Emby Server checked. Nothing set in LAN networks, Bind to local network address, Remote IP address filter, custom ssl cert path, nor cert password. Other relevant setup info: Ports 8095, 8096, and 8920 are all forwarded to the PC with Emby Server on it in my LAN via router configs Ports 8095, 8096, and 8920 are all open in my router and in Windows Firewall explicitly (both incoming and outgoing) Emby Server and MediaBrowser both automatically added to Windows Firewall as allow rules for all ports Further info: I set up Emby Server at my uncle's tonight and connecting to his server remotely via android, web/browser app, etc all works fine. Also works locally at his place, all using Emby Connect (did not try manual server adding since this worked). I have tried connecting to a friend's server remotely as well and I simply cannot connect without doing so directly to his ip:port in the browser - app.emby.media and apps do not work at all using Emby Connect. Connecting to my own server works flawlessly *within the LAN* with android, samsung tv, web app, and directly. Connecting to my own server does not work from outside my network with any apps, nor with my dynamic dns (I get a CONNECTION REFUSED error for some reason) Connecting to my own server DOES work from outside my network with my direct ip:port, just as with my friend, however it seems to automatically log me in with my profile and doesn't provide security (even the server dashboard is accessible, and that's from OUTSIDE MY LAN This all seems to point to some kind of configuration issue, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is! Any help with this would be GREATLY appreciated! Edited August 12, 2018 by MonkeyJamboree
MonkeyJamboree 0 Posted August 12, 2018 Author Posted August 12, 2018 After doing some domain/IP based testing, I've come to a conclusion: Using *anything* in the External Domain setting seems to break Emby Connect if using some sort of free dynamic DNS that makes you specify ports. With this field left blank, the web app, android app, etc all work flawlessly with Emby Connect and don't seem to have issues. Also, the user issues I was experiencing was simply a user configuration issue on my end. I only had one user, didn't have a password set up, and they are the default admin. Adding a secondary (Guest) user with limited access, and hiding both accounts seems to resolve my security related issues for now.
Luke 42085 Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Hi, you would enter just the dns domain into that field and then configure the public port, if that's what you need.
