Emby for Kodi and pre-existing database

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

First Post here. I've tested Emby Server and Emby for Kodi on a standalone machine with a new installation of KODI. I really like what I've seen so far ... it "just works". It was an easy installation and worked perfectly out of the box. Much respect to the devs for such a great app.

I have used KODI for a long time and am very familiar with it. On my "Production" machine, my media files are accessed from my server via SAMBA and the database is local to the machine.

I'll be installing emby server on my server and installing emby for Kodi on the HTPC.

Before I do that though, I need to understand what should to be done with a pre-existing implementation. I couldn't find an definitive answer in the forums or the wiki, so please excuse me if I've missed it. Do I need to clear out the database via a database reset and delete my sources or just turn on Emby for Kodi and it will update  and sync with Emby Server?

Thanks in advance for help or pointers.

Thank you :)

Backup your existing database just in case. Then, make sure you remove sources that points to the libraries you will add to Emby. Then, to make sure everything is correct, you can do a database reset via launching the add-on. That should give you a clean slate to work with. Emby for Kodi will then proceed to sync your Emby content to Kodi and will maintain updates.

You should also install the Kodi companion server plugin. This plugin is useful for when you start Kodi. Emby for Kodi will look for missing updates since it was last online, however without the server plugin, that process can take minutes depending on how large your Emby library is.

I hope this answers your question. Feel free to ask if you have more questions, I am the only dev on the project so my time is limited, but other users will also help you out if I can't reply fast enough.
