thekingswolf 48 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 looks like i might be migrating to a new machine soon and was hoping for some clarification on what the backup and restore plugin actually covers. Collections? Tags? How much am I going to lose?
Luke 42077 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Hi there, to learn about the backup plugin, please check out our wiki: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Backup Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
thekingswolf 48 Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) Yeah I already read all that but it doesn't answer my question. Are Tags stored in the metadata? If so, I don't see where. The Wiki says To keep a permanent copy of metadata, we suggest enabling saving of local metadata to media folders. But that option seems to be gone with the new version. Is it talking about custom location? Like this? If so, how is that information restored? Do i just set that same line in the new Emby install, and the library auto updates? I browsed that folder path and it's all just images used by the library, I don't see where the Tag information is stored. Are the tags in the database? Will collections restore by just copying/pasting the collections folder into the new install directory? Edited August 8, 2018 by thekingswolf
Luke 42077 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 the option isn't gone, it's a per library setting,. check the settings for each library to see if nfo saving is enabled. that's where tags would be. otherwise they're just going to be in the emby database, which means no, they won't be easy to backup.
thekingswolf 48 Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 the only options i see in the library settings are for saving artwork in media folders (which i assume is only for artwork and not tags and other information), and a Metadata savers check box that just has Nfo and no other information like file path or what the alternative choice is.
Luke 42077 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Ok so then you probably don't have local metadata.
thekingswolf 48 Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 ok so how do I enable local metadata if it's not in library settings or in the metadata path settings?
Luke 42077 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 It's the nfo saver checkbox that I previously mentioned. It's at the top of your screenshot.
thekingswolf 48 Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) ok cool ty, and where is the location? next to the media files? **nvm i refreshed and I see the nfo files populating. ty. I wish i could designate a custom folder for all nfo files instead of placing it next to the media, like an NFO folder in the custom Metadata folder i designated in my first screenshot Edited August 8, 2018 by thekingswolf
ebr 16172 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 The Server Configuration Backup plug-in is designed to backup your server configuration not your data or metadata. The best way to preserve metadata across installations is to use the option to save it with the media (if you turn that option on, you'll need to cause everything to re-save).
sundevil67 28 Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 Anyone know where I can download the backup plugin? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Has it been discontinued?
CBers 7450 Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 Anyone know where I can download the backup plugin? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Has it been discontinued? It's in the plugin catalogue, as I installed this from there this morning.
