Emby Server Crashing, after a few minuites eachtime after opening

yes, but it doesn't actually exit, nor can you even end task, the only way to kill it is to reboot the PC. So mine was crashing in that there was no way to access the server, but it was actually still running and there was also no way to restart it besides rebooting the PC.  so I took the advice above and chose not to start the server with windows to test the file. Everything seems back to normal now. :-)

Are you running as a windows service? That would be the only explanation for not having a tray icon.

Just wanted to add that since updating to 3.5.2 Emby doesn't shut down properly for me either (Windows 7). Whether I choose "shutdown" from the server dashboard, or right click on the tray icon and choose exit, there is still an Emby Server process running. This process can not be killed with the task manager and one has to reboot to get rid of it. I'm not running Emby as a windows service, and this isn't really an issue for me as that machine only really runs Emby, but thought I'd mention it.

Best thing to do is see how to report a problem. thanks !

Nope, never have. Since 3.5 the tray icon vanishes when the server crashs and I no longer have a server. Yet the process is still running and cannot be killed.

Are you on windows 7?

Windows 10, I have done a full windows reinstalation tonight on to a 240gb ssd, to rule out any lag issues from my hard drive. After doing a library scan it still crashes, also to answer your question windows 10, 64bit.

It seems that all is fine until I go to movies then part way through the A. Section the images then stop for all the thumbnails and the second the images stop I know the server service has stopped and I need to start the Emby service again.

I do have a tray icon and I start the emby server manually once windows boots.

Is it fully up to date?

I am Win10 64-bit. Things still seem fine; we plan to watch a show this evening then I'll report again.

Ok thanks for the info.

Watched a show without issue. I'm not sure what you changed (in that DLL), but it is seemingly doing the trick.

Hi I am also having this problem on a fully up to date Windows 10 system with Emby server version 3.5.2.0, it seems the behaviour started with the first 3.5 version, it was driving me mad. So the first dll posted works, the second one doesn't and towards the end of the media library scan it stops working and exiting or restarting does not work and browser cannot load the page. I can stop the two Electron instances in task manager though. So I am back working again, shame I had uninstalled and wiped and the restore function on my backups was hanging too, so possible the dll will fix that too if related?

I'm hoping so. Please try it out two posts above and report your feedback. Thanks.

Hi Luke,

Yep as I said, I tried the second one first of all and that didn't resolve the issue, the first version you posted did. Happy to test another as and when you may have one.

Hi, I have also run into the issue with Emby server 'hanging up' and either trying to shut it down or restart server results in no tray icon but the process is still there in windows manager, which will not allow me to 'end process' forcing me to reboot the HTPC. I am on Win 7 64 fully updated, the last issue was a few days ago, can't say for sure which version I was using at the time. I haven't had this issue for a day or two but if it happens again I will document it better.

Ok, it just happened again, went to restart the server and the tray icon disappeared but never came back, task manager showed embyserver.exe running but end task would not kill it, had to restart PC to get it back to normal. I am on fully updated Win7 64, latest official Emby server release.

So is your issue with shutdown/restart server process hanging or this topic title?  I have the process hang occasionally and has nothing to do with this topic.

I suppose I wouldn't say that my Emby server 'crashes' like the OP mentioned, but I have the same problem he has with the process not being able to be terminated through Task Manager requiring a PC reboot to fix. Are you suggesting that I start a different thread about this ?

The never ending restart circle...

You mean Embyserver process hangs and the restart process fails?

In this instance the server just needed a restart, doing so resulted in the never ending circle.
