dougaddams 1 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Hi Guys, My emby server keeps just shutting down and I cannot for life of me understand why, I was on the version previous to the latest when it started, In my attempt to fix so far; I have upgraded to the latest version , then once this didnt resolve the issue, I then renamed my programdata folder in appdata roaming emby server to programdata.bak to recreate the program data folder, I then reset up from scratch and I seem to still be getting the exact same issue. any possible suggestios?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 What OS is Emby installed on? Can you post a server log.
dougaddams 1 Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 (edited) Sure! May also be worth mentioning, when emby is working correctly my C drive disk usage is at 100% on task manager the second it stops it drops to idle arount 1 -9% however, I have no videos stored on my C drive.I am using windows 10 and attached is my log. https://file.io/7GHjqM embyserver.txt embyserver-63668592000.txt embyserver-63668576560.txt embyserver-63668576560.txt embyserver-63668575638.txt embyserver-63668574965.txt embyserver-63668574539.txt embyserver-63668574442.txt embyserver-63668574111.txt embyserver-63668564128.txt embyserver-63668563964.txt embyserver-63668563290.txt Edited July 31, 2018 by dougaddams
dougaddams 1 Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 Basically, I load up Emby server.Though it seems to be when I go into my Movies Library, Images will start to load A through to C then theemby server process just stops. All connections are cut. It just crashes.
bcm00re 18 Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 I went back to 3.4.1.0 and that fixed it for me initially -- but then a few days later it is back again. I sure hope they get this fixed before fall shows start!!!
bcm00re 18 Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Wait, I see now. I went back to 3.4 and turned off auto updates -- but somehow my emby is back on 3.5.1. So that explains why my crashes are back. How can I keep emby on 3.4?
dougaddams 1 Posted August 1, 2018 Author Posted August 1, 2018 @@bcm00re, I have faith that this will get sorted haha, I would rather not go back to a previous version. I have no doubt that rollingback 2 versions. may solve the issue, However In the mean time I am awaiting a new SSD for this machine to hopefully get better and faster functionality
bcm00re 18 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 I agree they usually quickly resolve big issues like this, but this one appears to have them stumped this time. Hopefully they solve it soon!

Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) @@Luke Does the 3.6.0.2-beta attemp address the server problems that started with the introduction of 3.5? I don't believe so. Release notes. Improve database query performance Support Brotli http compression Resolved repeated Visual Studio C++ install prompts when VS2017 is already present Significantly reduce dlna related network traffic Deprecate server folder view setting in favor of dedicated Folders tab throughout UI Use -hwaccel dxva2 on Windows with QuickSync Fix favorite artists page showing empty list Fix search by accent characters Allow a library to be named "backdrops", a previously reserved name Fix web access by ipv6 ip address Change new indicators for programs to match guide data Rework mobile context menus Fix More Like This for artists always showing same content Improve transcoding of low bitrate hevc Wait, I see now. This is a tricky one as there are Scheduled Task "Triggers" and some sort of update broadcast. So you would just have to uncheck "Enable automatic server updates" in Dashboard-Settings and ignore the Update Now button on dashboard. Note you would have to do this before Emby downloads the update. So start server and cancel the update via Dashboard or Scheduled Task Edited August 3, 2018 by Happy2Play

bcm00re 18 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) No I apologize for the issue that seems to be affecting a few windows users. We are still looking into it. Thanks. 3.5.2 had already downloaded and partially installed -- so I restarted the server to let it finish. I then did some web browsing, and after a several minutes I heard my processor's fan go into "jet" mode and that appeared to be the point that emby server crapped out. Not sure any of that helps, but it is what I noticed this evening. I promptly went back to 3.4.1. Let me know if you need any more info from me or having some things I can try... While I have your ear, how do I change these locations for emby: Logs: C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\logs Metadata: C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\metadata I want to get them writing to a HDD instead of my SSD. Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 As a test, can you try locating this file in your installation folder and replacing it with the one attached here? Please shutdown emby server first and then make a backup copy of the original so that you can change it back right after. If this causes the server to not load at all, then obviously change it back immediately. Thanks. libSkiaSharp.zip
bcm00re 18 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 I should I try this with 3.4.1, correct? Also, please see my additonal question above.
bcm00re 18 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 So far so good with the new file. I'll keep you posted...
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Are you sure you're using things exactly in the same way that resulted in crashing?
bcm00re 18 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) Are you sure you're using things exactly in the same way that resulted in crashing? That's just it, I really wasn't doing anything before. I just found that emby server wasn't running, and then every attempt to get it running would end up with it crashing within a minute of it starting. Since the change you had me try, it's been running fine. I'll actually try to watch a show or something tomorrow evening... Edited August 3, 2018 by bcm00re
Trevor68 70 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 I would love to test these files but one of the problems introduced in 3.5 is that I cannot stop emby server, not even end task will kill it.
bcm00re 18 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Maybe change the setting to not have it start automatically then do a reboot.
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 To stop emby server just right click the tray icon and select exit.
Trevor68 70 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) yes, but it doesn't actually exit, nor can you even end task, the only way to kill it is to reboot the PC. So mine was crashing in that there was no way to access the server, but it was actually still running and there was also no way to restart it besides rebooting the PC. so I took the advice above and chose not to start the server with windows to test the file. Everything seems back to normal now. :-) Edited August 3, 2018 by Trevor68
