griffindodd 18 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 (edited) Emby Server 3.5.2.0 Windows 10 x64 i7 3700k at 4.3ghz, 16mb DDR3 at 2300mhz, GTX 1070ti 8GB I've just noticed testing Emby on web streaming app and Emby client for Android that all streams for my users are limited to 720p 1.5mbps. Trying to change the options in the player interface doesn't result in any change. I tried my own account and that of a family member set to 5mbps max, both accounts do the same thing. I checked my bandwidth limiter for my account and it was left blank. I added 20mbps to the limiter to see if that would result in any change but nothing. Checking my server's connection I have a solid 325mbps down and 25.73mbps up with a 6ms ping so it's not a pipe issue. Edited July 30, 2018 by griffindodd
Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Hi there, can we please look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !

Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 In this example it looks like you may have manually configured 1.5mbps as your quality in the video player. did you do that? Can you try setting it back to Auto? Thanks.

Can you try setting it back to Auto? Thanks. All settings in the video player are at Auto. On my Android device which shows the same behavior, it was set at 1080p 8mbit for Internet and yet it also is stuck at 720p 1.5mbps when streaming.
Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Also if you connect to the server by ip address rather than hostname, does that have a different result?
griffindodd 18 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 I'm not sure where to look on the server to see if there is a global streaming setting. The only place I see something like that is under DLNA - Internet streaming bitrate limit (Mbps): which is blank. Trying to connect to the web interface via IP address just seems to mangle the index URL and returns a black screen at <IP ADDRESS>:8096/web/index.html#!/index.html
Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Try connecting with: http://<IP ADDRESS>:8096 Thanks.
griffindodd 18 Posted July 30, 2018 Author Posted July 30, 2018 (edited) Try connecting with: http://<IP ADDRESS>:8096 Thanks. Same result http://<IP ADDRESS>:8096/web/index.html#!/index.html Adding the server via IP only in my Android app then trying to connect just results in a constantly spinning progress circle. Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Is there some kind of proxy or vpn that could be playing a role here?

Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 In the activity log on the server dashboard what does it list as the remote ip addresses for your clients?

If you're willing to jump on the beta, I'm happy to work with you from one beta to the next to chase this down and figure it out. Thanks ! Thanks Luke. I am now running 3.6 beta and see the same problems. I have tested streaming using the web app in chrome and the Android app on my Galaxy Note 9, both are locked at 'Auto 720p - 1.5mbps' no matter if I choose higher or lower bitrates in the client, nothing changes. I have the bitrate for my user set to 10mbps, I've tried lowering and raising it but it makes no difference. I've tried my global network transcoding speed left blank and set to 25mbps but again no change. Is there a setting somewhere else in the server interface that would lock all users to 720p 1.5mbps?

Carlo 4561 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Do you have a new device and user you could try this with? If not would you be willing to allow another user to connect to your system to see what kind of rate they get? You could always create a test lib and drop one file in it for them to use. This could help diagnose if it's something previously set in your clients or if it's server related. Happy2Play may be on to something as well with his post above.

Luke 42078 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 The first thing I would go is go on the advanced page of the server and blank out the internet streaming limit, and then click save. That will rule that out. After that, there really should be no problem. Remember: "Auto - 1mbps" - this means your client app setting is on Auto, and that 1.5 is the value that was chosen by Auto. It's not a lock. You can always click on that and choose another value.
Carlo 4561 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Does this happen inside your house on your LAN or only for remote users? Can you reproduce this and upload the current server log file. Your last log is a few months old.
