4K UHD files and Emby

Hi, I have recently started adding my 4K UHD MKV rips to Emby. I am using Emby for WMC. When I scroll over to one of my 4K titles there is no indication that it is a 2160p file, it says 1080p like my other bluray rips. Is there a way to differentiate between UHD and bluray ? I know I could make a 'collection' and title it '4K' but I would rather have each movie be identified individually. Thanks !

I don't keep two copies of movies because the 4k can always be transcoded, so i'm sure someone else will chime in..  But as far as i understood, you could follow the movie naming convention and have the movies in the same movie folder, it would create a drop down in the movie view that allowed you to pick 4k or 1080p.  (red circle) like you would picking different audio.   But i get what you are saying, you don't see an icon or something on the homepage saying 4k.

EDIT:  Oops never mind, I misread the part about emby for WMC.

Hi Radio, like you I am not keeping 2 files of my movies, I just want to visually see when I scroll across my library that the title is 4K.

Doing a little searching I see the 'cover art' plug-in, could this have my answer ? I'm at work so I can't download it and check.

Transcoding 4k isn't recommended. Most of them will likely be HDR, and that will be lost during transcode.

I am not transcoding (were you replying to me ?) I am playing my ripped MKV 4K UHD files with MPC-BE (directing Emby to use an external media player)

Found this image online, but just to show you were it says 1080, look at how Wall-E is being reported in this image, it is doing that for my 4K file.mbc7.png

I wonder if Emby for WMC just hasn't been updated with 4K icons yet.

That was one of my thoughts too, I just made a thread asking about Emby for WMC updates - how to update (do you have to download it etc) and if it will change my settings after update. The answer I got was to update it via WMC preferences > update.

We'll see what @@ebr thinks. Thanks !

Will try updating Emby for WMC when I get home and report back.

Updated Emby for WMC to the latest beta build and it still is not showing my movie as 4K. What's interesting is that emby server>metadata manager>movies shows it as 4K. I have 'show HD overlay' checked in config.

So emby server recognizes the file as 4K but WMC displays it as 1080p, everything is updated, would love your guys thoughts.

My thoughts are in post #11.

No, I don't believe Emby for WMC understands 4K at this time.

The CoverArt plugin, however, should - but you will probably need to refresh the items first.

Yes, the cover art program does work for me. I was hoping not to have to subscribe to a membership but what the heck you guys deserve to make a little something off of such a fantastic and useful product. I hope emby and emby for wmc will start receiving some 4K options in the future (like an HDR badge) but for now cover art gives me what I need.
