CharleyVarrick 283 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 For the last 2 Emby server updates which I did from the dashboard (3.5.0 and 3.5.1), Emby doesn't restart by itself nor by any other means. I need to reboot and then everything is back to normal. Is this a know issue?
Luke 42086 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Please attach the information requested in how to report a problem: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks !

If you can provide the app-update logs as well, Luke can review them. Normally, the app-update logs are in the %AppData%\Emby-InstallLogs folder on Windows.

Thx you're probably right about app-update, as I noticed a progress bar about it each time. And yes, a reboot brings back Emby to full form. Not a biggie for me. From your reaction, I'm an isolated case then (my specialty )
CBers 7474 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 From your reaction, I'm an isolated case then (my specialty ) No, it's been reported several times and the suggestted resolution is to reboot the PC. A file/folder is being locked by Emby and not released on shutdown. Supplying the logs will help Luke idetify what the issue is.
ebr 16195 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 A file/folder is being locked by Emby and not released on shutdown. It is not necessarily us - sometimes people have external programs messing with things in their Emby directory that cause this (like a SQL browser or, sometimes, even an explorer window).
Luke 42086 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Right, even an explorer window open to the server install folder will do it.

Right, even an explorer window open to the server install folder will do it. Perhaps you can put a check in for locked files/folders so that the user isn't left scratching their heads. It might just be a pop-up saying tha the update failed as a file/folder was in use.
CharleyVarrick 283 Posted July 27, 2018 Author Posted July 27, 2018 (edited) While I haven't got around to getting any logs out yet, I have additional info about this. It has nothing to do with updating emby version in itself; the restart failure happens anytime I hit restart from dashboard: it does shuts down but then does not restart. I did have Explorer windows opened (to media content folders) when it hangs. Out of curiosity, I just tried a few restart of Emby without any opened Explorer and it restarted like a charm. I don't know it this behavior is new or not, but if it can be reproduce by most, and can't be corrected, a head's up about it near the restart button could be useful. Edited July 27, 2018 by jlr19
Luke 42086 Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 We'd have to take a look at the server logs in order to investigate further. Thanks !
