Cannot get EPG with TvHeadEnd

I've been trying to figure this out all day, I even went through and started fresh with a new debian image with emby, tvheadend, and tvhproxy.

I can get tvheadend setup, hdhomerun going on emby, I can connect and play channels, but I cannot get an EPG to work at all. I have tried both my xml guide and schedules direct. When I try and update the guide it just gets hung at 0%. I can see the channel (obviously no guide) and play it just fine.

Digging through the logs all that stands out is this:

2018-07-18 00:58:45.834 Info App: Refreshing guide with 7 days of guide data
2018-07-18 00:58:45.845 Fatal App: [TVHclient] MessageDistributor: HTSResponseHandler for seq = '5' not found!
2018-07-18 00:58:45.846 Info App: [TVHclient] GetProgramsAsync, ask TVH for events of channel '523172086'.

I can't find anything at all googling that error except one post in German that was un-related.

I'm guessing this is the failing point, but I have no idea what its supposed to mean.

I can make everything work with a m3u playlist and XML guide, or a m3u playlist and SD. I just can't get tvheadend in the mix.

Hi, if you have hd home run then I would suggest removing the tvheadend plugin and using emby native features.

But if you must use the plugin, then the first thing to do is get your epg working in the tvheadend software, and the tvheadend plugin for emby will pull it from there.

Oh is that what I'm doing backwards? I wasn't setting up anything EPG related in tvheadend, I was assuming I could have emby handle that. So I just need to get the EPG going in tvheadend, and just say nothing for a guide in emby?

Correct, you choose one or the other, and since you have hd homerun, I would suggest taking advantage of emby's native support.

Ok, I feel I'm close but maybe am doing something wrong. I don't have a hdhomerun, rather a thvproxy going. In tvheadend I am able to get all my channels and EPG data to populate correctly, but it's not coming up in emby. I deleted all my tuners and guides, re-added the hdhomerun, did not add anything for EPG in emby, refreshed the guide data, no channels or EPG data pulls up in emby.

The reason I want to use tvheadend and not native emby is so I can force mkv containers and effectively not have to transcode streams on my emby server.

Thank you for your help!! I've tried to google as much as possible but I'm still not seeing what I'm doing wrong.

That's what I am getting now. Weird on the last line it's looks like it's going over :80 ?

Ok, I figured out the above post (sort of), changed my tvhproxy to run on 80, I'm guessing this is a bug somewhere? It will then correctly connect and claim it's pulling the EPG. But I'm right back to where I started, no EPG in emby. tvheadend, shows everything, I have the epg data. I can still watch the channels, but no EPG.

EITHER

you setup your fake HDHomerun tuner and the guide source in Emby

OR

you setup your tuners and guide data in Tvheadend and only setup the Tvheadend plugin in Emby!

There is another option. You can setup the SD EPG in both Emby and Tvheadend then configure TVH as an m3u tuner in Emby, no plugin needed.

Yup, that's a great choice as well.
