c0utta 10 Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 (edited) Hi guys, I’ve also moved over from Plex to Emby and have taken a monthly subscription to see how it works for my environment. From a video perspective, everything’s great – I use with Kodi on Raspberry Pi’s. I’m not sure if the “Watched” status is stored on Emby and distributed to the other Kodi instances, but I’m not really that fussed. My main reason is music, syncing on my phone remotely and streaming to my work PC at low bitrate (I have restricted upload capacity at home). I use Subsonic with dSub, but I’ve noticed that support has dropped off and I’d like to consolidate. Plex just didn’t suit my use case - direct streaming to work and tying up my home upload. I also found that syncing to my phone just didn’t work sometimes. Some observations about Emby’s music handling – I’m a patient person so am willing to hang in there while things get fixed or updated. Note that my structure is \music\[Artist first letter]\[artist] – (eg \music\S\Sleaford Mods) A lot of music metadata gets mixed up on scanning. I notice that if you have non-album tracks at the artist level (\music\S\Sleaford Mods) that all the non-album tracks get mixed in together. Just an observation On my Android phone, I have “Max audio file bitrate” in “Offline Sync” set to 320K but the client seems to have synced my FLACs, whereas I would have expected to see 320K MP3’s – I have tried multiple times. Before I sync my main playlist, is this a known problem? I have seen this request, but not sure if it’s been made official -- “only stream while on WiFi”. If I’m _not_ on WiFi then don’t stream. Currently I turn down the bitrate on “Internet quality” to 64 kbps in “Music Quality” so I don’t stream. Maybe this setting could be for both audio AND video? Or add “None” to the quality options? I travel a lot and am operating off the grid with no WiFi or internet connection at all. If Emby is running on my phone at the time of disconnection, I get the “ring of death” until I stop the app and restart. I completely understand that connectivity (or lack of) is a complex area, but maybe the “Go offline” function that is used in dSub would be okay? At home I stream to my Chromecast Audio, but can’t change the volume from my phone – just a minor thing Overall, I’m enjoying Emby and can see that my Subsonic and Plex servers will be turned off soon! Luke 42085 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Hi, welcome and thanks for the feedback. I will address these.
Luke 42085 Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 A lot of music metadata gets mixed up on scanning. I notice that if you have non-album tracks at the artist level (\music\S\Sleaford Mods) that all the non-album tracks get mixed in together. Just an observation Yes we need to improve our support for non-standard folder structures. We have an open ticket for this. You can follow it here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3207 Thanks.

What are you saying, you'd rather playback be rejected?

c0utta 10 Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 What are you saying, you'd rather playback be rejected? Luke, thank you for your feedback on all my questions. Assuming there was an option, similar to "Sync only on Wifi" in "Offline Sync" (or even use this same option, since it probably applies to both streaming and syncing). If the media was not available locally, and Wifi was not available and "Stream/sync only on WiFi" was enabled prompt (like many podcast apps) to temporarily allow streaming for this single media item.
Luke 42085 Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 to temporarily allow streaming So you're saying you do want playback rejected?
c0utta 10 Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 So you're saying you do want playback rejected? Yes ..but.. only if the user has said they don't want to temporarily allow streaming via the internet.
