Collection Management

Limit user ability to create collections under access permissions for user account.

OR

When non-admin user creates a collection, it is only for their account.

When a movie is grouped into a collection, it is removed from the list of movies.  It only shows inside that collection.  I want to prevent users from creating something like a "All the movies I like" collection and preventing other users from seeing any of those movies unless they go into that custom collection.

Have you tried enabling the server setting to group movies into collections?

The issue is User A's collections effects other Users view of media if User's puts all the movies they like into a collection. So the admin would have to disable "Group movies into collections" so all users can see all items without entering custom collections.

Happy is correct.  The movies are already grouping into collections with no problems.  the issue is any user can create any random collection they want, and movies only show up in that collection for everyone.  I would like to either limit users from being able to create collections OR have it where users only see collections they created themselves.  Only admin users should be able to create collections that appear for everyone.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

In my opinion, this is how playlist behavior should work as well.

For playlists, this makes sense but collections are not inherently personal things.  The feature is designed to display actual movie collections as opposed to personal groupings of items (which would be a playlist, not a collection).

I agree, which is why i think there should be an option to limit users from creating any random collection they want.  Putting a movie into a collection removes it from the list of movies (which is by design, and not something I want to change).  It can then only been seen inside that collection.   So, for example, if my mother decides to make a collection of "All the movies I want to see" then anything she decides to add to that means all my other users have to go inside her collection to even see the movie is available.  Yes, a playlist for this makes more sense, but users don't always do things that make sense, hence wanting to limit their ability to do something like this to the library that effects all users.  yes my mother actually did this, and is what brought about my feature request.  Other than asking her not to do that, I have no way of preventing it.

Okay, then your first request makes sense I just don't think the "or" one does :).

I agree, only the admin should be able to create or amend collections

Great idea.  I don't think I have had any users do this but they easily could and I could very easily not notice for some time.

it does when you consider creating a playlist is also server wide and not only displayed for the user who made it.  I didn't even realize that until legallink mentioned it.  I just assumed the playlist function was user specific, cause, yanno, it should be lol

No, that's about playlists and this is about collections :).
