Guest Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Dashboard, Windows 8.1 app, same issue on both. Dashboard on both the server itself and another workstation. As mentioned, at first .wtv files wouldn't play at all got an error, but now they do for a couple seconds and then the Dashboard player just disappears. The .wmv files don't play at all, always get error that file unable to be played.
Guest Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Guess out of luck ATM. Any reason why you don't allow transcoding to be turned off and just stream native files especially on a local network? Guess it is time to update the MB and CPU in the server. BTW, if there is a "non-public" build that I could test, would be willing to do so.
Tikuf 663 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Ok there are a few issues here firstly Wmv. Stream #0:0, 1, 1/90000: Video: mjpeg, yuvj444p(pc), 1000x1500 [sAR 300:300 DAR 2:3], 1/90000, 90k tbr, 90k tbn, 90k tbc Stream #0:1, 22, 1/1000: Audio: wmapro (b[1][0][0] / 0x0162), 48000 Hz, 5.1, fltp, 256 kb/s Stream #0:2, 122, 1/1000: Video: vc1 (Advanced) (WVC1 / 0x31435657), yuv420p, 1918x1036 [sAR 1:1 DAR 137:74], 1001/48000, 6000 kb/s, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc we are trying Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (mjpeg -> libx264) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (wmapro -> aac) For some reason we are listing stream 0:0 as the video stream not sure why because this was a bug from forever ago and I thought it was fixed. @@Luke Wtv: I would like to see a non debug ffmpeg log on this (debugs are really hard to read) but from what i can see it is a 29fps source and we are converting @ 25fps (not fast enough) What cpu do you have on your server?
ebr 16178 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Each client will determine what it can and can't play. The web browser and most mobile clients will often have to transcode to get something they can play but most of them also attempt to direct-play when they can. The win 8.1 app I think almost always needs to transcode at least partially but I'm not positive. If you use one of the true HTPC clients (MBC/MBT) they will always prefer direct playback of the actual files - but you have to be sure you give them direct access to them with either UNC paths or path substitutions defined.
Guest Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Thanks for the quick response guys. Yes, MBC works fine as it is direct playback. Thanks for allowing the Windows 8 app to have a 1 day trial as I would have been upset if I had purchased and it didn't work. I'll have to see about upgrading my server in the future.
Guest Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I just installed an Nvidia Graphics card into the server hoping that the transcoding would take advantage of it, but it seems it doesn't. Same issue - only a couple seconds of playback. Since this is a Server (Windows Server 2012 R2) it an older Intel CPU, a Quad core Q6600 running at 2.4. I have enclosed new log files without extended debug info. server-63531961608.zip
Tikuf 663 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Leave it for now but if you can post direct links to the logs it would be helpful as it is a bit of a hassle when not on a pc. Ya there is no gpu acceleration. The cpu is just not up to decoding a 1080p stream and re-encoding it in two threads there are some improvements coming in this area soon. Luke the num core -1 is not active yet is it?
Tikuf 663 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Oh actually it is not active for webm as we were waiting for updated ffmpeg that supported multi threads in webm.
Luke 42078 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 we have ffmpeg from march so i think it was updated. if i recall i made the code change.
Guest Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Seems I am striking out here playing any of my media. I have moves in .wmv format, tv shows in .wtv format and music is .wma format and nothing plays. I was able after a couple tries to finally get a .wtv file to play, but it plays for about 2-3 seconds and then just stops. I am thinking for the .wtv files, my server is not powerful enough to transcode them. If I put a GPU in the server, does MediaBrowser use it? Looking at the logs, I see FFmeg cannot decode .wma files. So my question here is can I turn off transcoding of these files? I have enclosed log files for both my .wmv movies and .wtv tv shows. Any thoughts? log_files.zip
Tikuf 663 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I dont think it carried to webm unless it was -re https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser/blob/master/MediaBrowser.Api/Playback/BaseStreamingService.cs#L307 1
