folder view not Showing folders

Using 3.4.1.28 beta and accessing using localhost browser on Windows. Also happening on 3.4.1.0.

Going into folder view and clicking any of the libraries, it shows the files all bunched together like the normal view, not a folder in sight. Same thing happens on every client I've tried.

Trying to refresh metadata on the folder view entry or any of the libraries does nothing. I also tried deleting library.DB, cache folder, and metadata folder and still nothing.

programdata\metadata\views\folders\ folder is completely empty. I assume there's supposed to be something there.

How do I fix this? Thank you.

What files exactly are bunched together?

All of the movies and shows I've added to a library are lumped together into a single view instead of showing any directories in the folder view. It should be showing directories in the folder view. Instead it looks just like the normal view where everything in the library is shown together.

This has been reported before and claimed to be fixed, but it's still not working over here.

And what exactly is wrong?

You can see on the library page that each library is comprised of multiple folders. The libraries are listed in the "Folders" category but when clicking on a library it does not show directories it just shows everything lumped together. That is exactly the same as clicking on a library without going through the folders category. It was working before where it showed the directories in the folder view and now it's not.

Ok that's just the way it works when you combine mulitple folders. If you really want them separate you'd have to do two separate movie libraries.

it should be showing a directory list like this. 5b423486a173b_waterfox_20180708_115520.p

i realize that's what you want but that's not what we currently do. it's always possible to change this in the future, but in the meantime you'd have to use separate movie libraries in order to get that.

I think what's happening is that it doesn't consider the top level folders added to a library as separately browsable. it always lumps that top level together, if you've added multiple folders. it only considers subfolders to be separately browsable.

so if I added c:\movie and c:\movie2 to the same library, it will lump together any videos in those 2 folders and then if there are any subfolders such as c:\movie\other those will show up as separately browsable. But c:\movie or c:\movie2 can't be separately browsed as folders since they were added as the top level of the library.

Please consider allowing the user to browse the top level of library folders separately in folder view. It feels like an inconsistent and arbitrary treatment of folders. Thank you.

That's correct and that's just what we've always done.

Well it took a while to figure out since It's not clearly explained on the library setup wiki. I don't know if it's publicly editable but It would help to explain that there.

I appreciate the prompt response but I still feel like this behavior is inconsistent and confusing. I feel like folder view should show folders, regardless if they are the top level of the library or not.

I agree it should probably do that, however I'm making this suggestion because it's something that you can do today. We've had this behavior for so long that it might be difficult to change.

To me adding multiple folders to one library, you are already telling Emby to merge them in one folder view. If you want multiple folders then create multiple libraries.
