Emby crashes when adding folder which contains NFO files

I've been using Kodi for years. A lot of the content I have is stuff that will not be recognized with a scan. Thus, I developed a system with Archive folders, which used entirely local data. I have perfected these .nfo files, and even created things like custom genres that are embedded into these nfo files (the folder for each movie also includes fanart, backgrounds, etc).

I took a sample of 10 movies and placed them into a testing directory. Whenever I try to scan this testing directory, emby crashes. I need to run the service emby-server restart command, and then it crashes again within 15 seconds. The only way to resolve the crashing is to go into the test directory and delete the metadata, restart, and the files are scanned.

Is there a way to use the nfo files that I have already created? These files have worked with all versions of kodi I've used. I'm worried, as I have used this same system with TV, and so I have 300+ tv series and 500+ movies with metadata that has been fine tuned for years, and needing to throw it away would be a deal breaker.

Also, why would the presence of nfo files cause emby to crash entirely? This issue has proven a bit difficult for me to search for, so I apologize if this has been asked before.

I'm on Ubuntu 16.04. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Only errors I see look like permission issues. I ran

sudo usermod -a -G myGroup emby

And then restarted emby. myGroup has create and delete file permissions to the directory and the subfolders.

Ok, I don't think this is related to nfo files. More than likely there's a segfault occurring in one of the native libraries that we include. Can you try running from a terminal and capturing all of the terminal output? thanks.

I'd be happy to, but I can't seem to find any documentation on how to do that.

Ok, I decided to look a bit closer. Before I was only looking at folder permissions. I checked the contained nfo files, and the group was listed as the owner, but the group had no access rights. Appears I resolved it by running

chmod -R g+rwx /FOLDER/PATH

Thanks for watching and helping me get my head out of my own ass.

Interesting, thanks for the info.
