Resetting Server Passwords

I have accidentally deleted my Admin account and am effectively locked out of the server.  How can I recover from this without losing bookmarks etc?

 

I have tried logging in at the server as localhost but I still get the login prompt. Deleting the users.db file does not work either. Please advise.

That shouldn't be possible because it won't let you delete the last remaining admin account. can a tester verify?

 

and yes, deleting users.db does work.

I really do not know what happened but yes, I was startled when I managed to delete both accounts - I actually only deleted one (not the one I was logged under) and it then threw me out to the login prompt!.  When I tried logging in with the second admin account the server refused to recognise it. Deleting users.db did not work for me.

 

In the end I went into an existing non-admin user account xml file under MediaBrowser-Server\config\users and manually edited the config.xml file to give that user Admin privileges  <IsAdministrator>true</IsAdministrator>.  That worked. Now that I am back in I can see that both the prior admin accounts have gone.

 

To tell you the truth, I really do not know what happened as it was so sudden and unexpected.

Can you find the server log from when you did the delete?  We've had one or other two people report this same thing - delete one user but two get deleted.
