prasasumeet 0 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Hi Guys, Can you please confirm how it actually works? I have put new TV shows in the folder and have asked EMBY to convert with the new feature which it looks like it has as the 'sync' option states 'ready for transfer' however, the files are not replaced or MP4 file is not replaced beside it to the designated folder where the main files are. Can anyone please confirm how to use this converting feature? Thank you and look forward to your reply.
Luke 42077 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Hi there, can you please attach the emby server log? you can learn how to do that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
prasasumeet 0 Posted July 3, 2018 Author Posted July 3, 2018 Hi Luke Will post log when close to a computer but at this stage want to know what the steps are? There is no where on the forum in the steps of how the converting feature works and replaces the original files. Would be good for all users to have steps for this feature. Can you provide the steps?
Luke 42077 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 The steps are exactly what you've done, so I've asked for the log files so that we can try to learn why that's not happening. thanks.
prasasumeet 0 Posted July 6, 2018 Author Posted July 6, 2018 Hi Luke, See attached Log. Hope this helps Log File.txt
Luke 42077 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Have you tried running the scheduled task for cloud & folder sync?
prasasumeet 0 Posted July 7, 2018 Author Posted July 7, 2018 Please explain how to do that so I'll give that a go as well. I have got the folder sync plugin.
Luke 42077 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 In the server scheduled tasks menu just click the play button next to the one called "Cloud & Folder Sync". This normally runs automatically every few hours.
prasasumeet 0 Posted July 15, 2018 Author Posted July 15, 2018 Hi Luke, Still same, no changes of any files being replaced.
Luke 42077 Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 HI, can you show a screenshot of where it says ready to transfer? thanks.
prasasumeet 0 Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Hi Luke, See attached. It is in the 'sync' option after converting accordingly to emby is completed.
Luke 42077 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Did you go to scheduled tasks and try running the "cloud and folder sync" scheduled task? Please do that and then attach the emby server log. thanks.
prasasumeet 0 Posted July 19, 2018 Author Posted July 19, 2018 Hi Luke, Yes, this schedule tasked has run with no outcome. See log attached for reference right after the run as it was completed. Log File.txt
Luke 42077 Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 Hi Luke, Yes, this schedule tasked has run with no outcome. See log attached for reference right after the run as it was completed. Here's your problem. The server is trying to transfer the files, but is being denied write access to your media folders: Application directory: /opt/emby-server/system System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/home/home/plex/TV Shows Request/EastEnders/Season 34/EastEnders - 2018-06-12 - 12+06+2018 WEBDL-720p - mobile.mp4' is denied. ---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at Interop.ThrowExceptionForIoErrno(ErrorInfo errorInfo, String path, Boolean isDirectory, Func`2 errorRewriter) Resolve those permissions and then you should be good to go.
prasasumeet 0 Posted August 15, 2018 Author Posted August 15, 2018 Hi Luke, Any ideas on how to resolve the permission on the server as now I am running clueless at this stage. Thanks.
Luke 42077 Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Have you checked out File Permissions Guide for New Linux Users ? @@mastrmind11 may also have some tips.
mastrmind11 722 Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Hi Luke, Any ideas on how to resolve the permission on the server as now I am running clueless at this stage. Thanks. got to your media folder and run this ls -l then post the output here.
doonze 30 Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 I had this issue with stuff Sonarr created. I figured out it was due to the permissions Sonarr uses when creating files. I from time to time run a chmod/chown with the -R flags on my media folders, but hadn't done it in awhile. Plus that doesn't help with NEW files. So I tweaked my Sonarr settings, and think I have it licked. The linux purist will have a heart attack about it, but I 777 all my media folders. But to be honest 666 is likely best (I can't see a reason to execute media files) . Or 776 at least. With 777 you always run the risk of someone being able to place something nasty there and running it. Generally speaking most directories and files are created with read to everyone, so we don't run into playback issues all that often. But if you store your Emby metadata in the folder with the media, or with the new convert feature, it becomes more of an issue. You could create a script with root access to keep all your media folders in line with the correct user/group and accesses, and if you run it pretty often (every 5-10 mins say) that would solve the issues with convert, but if you use the directory monitoring for new media you'd still likely have issues storing metadata in the folder. Because Emby would try to create the files before your script could run. Are you manually creating these folders or are you using a program to do it automatically? We can help you more if we know how they are being created.
prasasumeet 0 Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 Ok. Thanks guys, for me it seems like this is more trouble so I will stick to manually converting media to MP4.
spikemixture 3 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I have just paid for 12 months of emby. I am a Plex user and am looking at Emby as an alternative. The auto converting from MKV to mp4 was of major interest but it is not there (yet). My wish for Emby I think is pretty simple. Emby scans all (or new) folders every x hours for MKV and AVI files. It remuxes MKV to mp4 and converts AVI's to mp4. Then deletes the mkv and avi (or moves to a designated completed folder) Currently this is being done exactly using MCE Buddy.

Why do you feel that we don't support that? We fully support that. You can setup a conversion job on the folder, select the mobile profile as the output, and it will run periodically using the convert media scheduled task.
