Use Theater and it won't transcode at all. It'll play it directly.

Thank you. I will try it now.

I am looking at the Emby server dashboard and it indicates "Direct Playing". Excellent Sooty234!!!

This is a big plus for Emby and promotes being an Emby Premiere subscriber,  no?

Thanks again.

To the best of my knowledge Chrome can't play dsf media so the server would have to transcode these files.

Yes that is correct.

If Emby server is performing the transcoding (due to Chrome as client not able to play dsf files), is there a way to force the transcode to flac?

Hi, no, but it's not a bad idea for future updates. thanks for the feedback.

as a follow up to this topic and specifically to device NVIDIA Shield TV 2019 Pro, will EMBY for Android TV direct play .dsf audio files now or at any time in the near future?

I do know that Kodi (with Embycon add-on will) play .dsf files natively.

The player we're embedding doesn't natively support them, therefore transcoding is required. We'll keep an eye on it and may consider adding the support ourselves if there's enough demand for us.

Thanks for the update. I think that many of the online high end audio streaming companies are leading us to this, indirectly.

To clarify, there isn't a technical roadblock per se, but this is a question of priority for you and the dev team?

Playing .dsf files with Chrome client I am experiencing a problem. I realize that these file types are transcoded into AAC.

At exactly 4:23 into each track the track stops playing. I have tried multiple tracks and they all stop at 4:23

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Yesterday, you mentioned the redesign of the Dashboard  due to a number of pending items including the new problem I reported with the Active Devices Window. At the same time, perhaps an option could be included for choosing transcode target format with audio tracks? This would address .dsf files.  Or, just  simply transcode .dsf files to .flac (lossless) all the time? Today, the transcode target is .aac format. This is a format with loss, regardless of bit rate.

Thanks for your consideration.

Yes more audio conversion options are possible in future updates. thanks for the feedback.

I have an update on tracks stopping while transcoding (from previous post above). Today, for some reason I had the track on pause for some time, came back, hit the play button and the track played through to the end. Buffer / cache size for transcode? Cache cleared after some time while in pause?

I hope this information is helpful.
