bjhille 3 Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I know I can "edit metadata" and then go to "enabled fields" and uncheck genres's for example and that field will not get updated. I can only find that option on each individual movie. Is there a way to set that at a Library level? I don't want it on all my libraries, but I do want to lock the Genre for all movies in a particular library. Is that possible? Heck, is it possible to lock Genre's on all libraries? I really don't want to click on over 800 media files individually. Thanks. Brian
Luke 42080 Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Hi, we don't currently have any bulk editing features but it's something we're interested in for the future. You may wish to lend your support to the existing feature requests about that. Locking fields from a top level folder currently will not have any impact on items underneath. thanks.
horstepipe 422 Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 @@Luke couldn’t you make use of your magic fingers for 5 minutes creating this guy a script which: - scans all his existing .nfo files for the IMDb-IDs linked to the corresponding genres and makes a list of it - replaces the information in the new .nfo files (edited by Emby server) with the saved one?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 Doesn't Emby just read the existing nfo file when imported? Isn't that the point of saving metadata with media, to preserve customization?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 a good text editor should be able to add a line to the existing nfo's - i.e. Notepad++ etc so search for <lockdata>false</lockdata> using "find in files" and replace with <lockdata>false</lockdata> <lockedfields>Genres</lockedfields> obv's try on a couple of movies first 2
bjhille 3 Posted June 23, 2018 Author Posted June 23, 2018 Yeah, I did test that and it works, however then I have to manually edit over 800 nfo files. Would be nice if that was an option for the library...like the language, etc.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 Notepad++ allows you to target and change every nfo. Just need the right parameters. example https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/26604-help-with-changing-the-date-added-value/?p=258960
bjhille 3 Posted June 23, 2018 Author Posted June 23, 2018 Hmmm....wonder if they have something like that for the mac...

Then what is this option for? (scroll down if you please) Altough it's a montage, this is what happens when we right click in "Movies" or "TV". It pops-up the edit metadata option and there is also present the option to "lock" it. I thought it would be applied to all items within. It's not working, is that what you mean? Damn, I have over 5000+ movies and 700+ TV Shows, I have to click every single one of them and lock it Edited July 4, 2018 by djhifi
Luke 42080 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 If that's what you want then just disable internet metadata for that library.
djhifi 56 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 If that's what you want then just disable internet metadata for that library. I want to start editing my future movies and locking them up individually when they are correctly ID'ed. I have an existing collection of 5000+ and I wanted a way to lock that metadata up without going through each one of them. I thought that that option (above) was doing it. But after reading this thread, it's not built-in as a bulk editor yet you mean? Wouldnt disabling the internet metadata for my library prevent future movies from being scrapped ? I think I can use Notepad + + to edit the "lock" field in my .nfos but I thought that option Emby provides at the library level (to lock things) would then apply to that entire library. That is not happening, is that what you mean? (cause I had that library locked but as far as I understand it, it's not implemented at the library level yet?)
Luke 42080 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Wouldnt disabling the internet metadata for my library prevent future movies from being scrapped ? Yes but so would locking a parent folder, so that's why i suggested the simpler of the two approaches to doing that. 1
djhifi 56 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Yes but so would locking a parent folder, so that's why i suggested the simpler of the two approaches to doing that. Oh ok got it. I only meant to lock the parent folder to apply "lock metadata" in a bulk to my entire movie collection to avoid going over 5000 items locking them up individually. So if I lock the parent folder it really locks all the movies within but if I uncheck again it unlocks everything. Is this the current behavior then?
djhifi 56 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Yep But you mentioned editing the nfo filed regarding the "true" or "false" argument in the locked field. The thing is, Emby server "metadata menu" won't show it as being locked if I choose that method (Notepad + + for instance), right? Damn I need to go 1 by 1

Damn I need to go 1 by 1 Sure it does assuming you are talking about <lockdata>true</lockdata>. <lockedfields> is another story.
djhifi 56 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Sure it does assuming you are talking about <lockdata>true</lockdata>. <lockedfields> is another story. Yes I was talking about <lockdata>true</lockdata> being edited via Notepad + +. I've just tested with 1 movie, directly editing in the Notepad + + and you're right. It takes a little since I have a huge collection but damn it I only need to do it once, nice. Tell me something, if I lock a particular TV Show, but then add an episode to it, being metadata locked would prevent Emby server (and also Emby for kodi addon) from syncing that particular episode or? I'm asking this because I use an addon kodi-side to keep IMDB ratings updated and then only way I can avoid having to run that addon every time I add an episode and/or movie, is locking the metadata, but regarding shows, I think I can't lock shows where I'm still adding ongoing episodes or it won't update in the server, correct or?

Haven't tested on TV but in theory there is no metadata to lock until after it has been fetched.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) Tested---Adding episodes to a locked series provides no metadata. You can't lock a series that you are adding episode to. Edited July 4, 2018 by Happy2Play 1

So it's really a thing. Not only on my side. Meh I will have to keep updating the ratings kodi-side in TV Shows that are still in progress.
