Scott750 29 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I have one Movie library for all of my movies, but In the Server Dashboard under the index page there are 2 links for movies; one at the top and one under Media Folders. The one under Media Folders sorts/lists my movies according to their proper name and any manual Boxsets I created, just how I like it. The Movie tab at the top seems to arrange the movies based on their "Sort Name". So movies part of a collection where I use "001", "002", etc to arrange them are now sorting that way as individual movies, which I don't like. Why can't the Movies link at the top just go into my movie folder like the movies under "Media Folder"? When I'm navigating around the Server Dashboard, it's more convenient to click the Movies link at the top of the window to return to my movie index than go look for the Movie link under the Media Folders page. Also when you hover the mouse over a movie in the Movie link at the top, an options box rises to view, edit, like, etc a movie. Can this feature be included when using the icons under Media Folders?
ebr 16178 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Those are two completely different "views" on your library. In your situation, they are the same set of items but it doesn't have to be that way. The top one is a data-based view of all movies in your library regardless of their physical location. The one under "Media Folders" is a view that shows any and all items defined under the Media Folders that you defined - respecting their physical location and structure. So, if you wanted to split out your movies into Work-out videos, Documentaries and real Movies, you could do that with Media Folders and see all of those separated that way while the "Movies" view would show them all put together.
Scott750 29 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 That's a neat feature about the differences between the two. But the way the top Movies tab sorts everything based on "Sort Name" instead of Display Name, is that something most people like?
gcw07 347 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Yeah most people probably do because it removes words like "The". So instead of the movie "The Amazing Spider-Man" showing up under T's, it would show up under A's.
Scott750 29 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Actually the Movies tab at the top sorts my movies with "the" "a" etc. See my second pic in the first post. Clicking the Movies tab under Media Folders gets rid of that. I prefer it that way.
ebr 16178 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 "Sort Name" exists for the sole purpose of sorting...
Scott750 29 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Yes I understand that, but I sort some movies in collections as "001" "002" etc like the tutorials mentions so that movies with parts 1, 2, & 3 show up in order. I was just asking if both Movie tabs would organize the same way is all.

Scott750 29 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 That's a good idea I'll try that. Thanks
