Hello,

I'm pretty new to Emby and this forum, I stumbled over some issues while using it (premier version), which I hope you can help me with.

If already answered elsewhere, forgive me that, I havn't found it.

Using the nVidia Shiled client to display on the TV in the living room I noticed some inconveniences, I had not with Kodi, which I used before Emby.

- Display Text is always way to small to read over the living room distance. Is there a setting that allows me to change that? This fits to all text

related; titles, descriptions, doesn't matter what.

- Poster/banner space is not well scattered over the screen, leaving way to much white space, but then too little display space for the images itself.

This makes it hard to read movie or tvshow titles on the related pictures. Is there a way to stretch that, or choose "single row posters" for

instance, which are stretched then, or the like?

- I love the categories generally on the main page. Especially "new content" and "recommendations", thats a real relief for me. But, the scrollable

band is way to short for me. I would like it to be at least 5 times longer for any category. Is there a switch anywhere, that allows me to adjust the

amount of entries to show in these bands?

- reflecting new content in the overview. I've set up the server to recognize new files automatically. So I would expect the system to reflect the new

files in the overview pane in, lets say 5 minutes. On my system it could take a day, 'til it is visible in the overview, which renders the mechanism

almost useless right now. How can I speed things up?

- strange problem: Accessing the Server via webclient on a regular machine in the net works pretty fine. Even HD content does not take the NAS

higher than 55% (which is pretty low, did not expect it). But, the Shield is on the same net, but routed through Powerlan with at least 120 mBit

throughput. I thought this to be enough, but I sometimes have problems with stutter in the video, even not with HD content. Is there a way to

reduce the data rate and fix it to a max point, that is useable for my case?

- finally a real noob question. I'm using the premier version for 2 days now. With that I've installed a new scraper plugin, which was not accessible

with the free version. Installation goes well, but, ehm..., do I have to adjust any settings, or will this scraper be used automatically? I havn't found

any setting to assign the new service to do that, in the settings.

The system, emby is running on: Server on Synology DS1813+ 4GB RAM. Client on latest NVidia Shield 500 GB.

Thanks for your patience and support in advance :)

kind regards,

I'm surprised you feel this way coming from Kodi... we use the standard recommendations for text sizes on 10' interfaces.  There are no settings for this right now.  How big is your TV and how far away?

In the row-based views, there is no setting for the image sizes.  Again, we're using a standard size that most apps on these types of devices use.  In the grid views (e.g. all movies) however, there are settings for the image sizes.  If you select the cog icon in that view you will see the options.  The default is "auto" which will size them based on the number of items in the view.

These are not adjustable at this time.

I'm afraid I don't fully understand what you are asking here.  How would new content be indicated in the overview?  That is a text field coming from the metadata providers.  Unwatched content is indicated by the lack of a watched indicator and "new" content can easily be discovered by sorting the view by Date Added or using the "Latest" views.

In the app playback settings there is a max bitrate setting.  Adjust that to the optimal value for your setup.

To what plug-in are you referring here?

Thanks and welcome!

Hi EBR,

thanks for the lengthy and well explained answer. I will try my best to answer.

>>I'm surprised you feel this way coming from Kodi... we use the standard recommendations for text sizes on 10' interfaces.  There are no settings for this right now.  How big is your TV and how far away?<<

In Kodi I use Posterview, which creates one band to scroll through, stretching images to estimated 4/5 of the original TV height, which makes it easy to read the Text on the graphics. About the real text passages I can't tell, I can read that in kodi, not in Emby. Might be that kodi uses bold font, i dont know, sorry.

The TV is 42 inch in diameter. The screen is almost 4-5 meters (sorry) away. This is much, but again, had no problems with that in Kodi.

This will help, thanks for the hint!

In the main view I have sections for the latest movies and the latest tvshows. I set the server to NOT use the file date, but the "date, file is added" instead. In my understanding this menas, whenever a new file goes into the media library, emby is triggered by the OS, that there is s.th. new. The scraper adds all this fine to the "new" sections in the main view, but does it pretty late, can be a day instead of some minutes. This is, what I don't understand. The feature is very valuable for me, since it could keep me from keeping record of what was added to the media library on a daily basis. But since I want to view some of the new stuff the same day, I can't really make any use of it, right now, which is a pitty :).

>> In the app playback settings there is a max bitrate setting.  Adjust that to the optimal value for your setup.<<

Thats, what i was looking for, thanks!

>> To what plug-in are you referring here?<<

Sorry again, I'm not at the machine right now, but the first scraper plugin in the plugin list, that's the one :)! It is not selectable in the free version, but I could install it with the premier version. I chose that to maybe get better and more picture results, than the original scrapper. (was just a test, I don't know, if it really works better, than the build in)

Thanks for your help and patience!

edit: some typos.

Your Synology file system may not support the real-time monitoring feature.  If that is the case, you could increase the schedule for the Library Scan task (Server Scheduled Tasks) to run a few times a day.

I _was_ sure, that it does until now :). I'll double check this. Thanks again for the hint.
