DarkJoney 0 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Hello, guys.I am using Emby for the 3 weeks, and in general, I am really happy with it, streaming to the Chromecast works like a beast, but I have some questions about some small issues.I am running Emby at Windows Server 2012 R2 installed on my HP Microserver N40L, which was upgraded with GT1030. Transcoding is set to NVIDIA NVENC. So, the questions:1) I am not able to watch any H265 file at my Chromecast. Loader spins for a while, I see the file name on my TV, and then it rolls back to the "ready to cast" and I can choose something another. I launch videos from the android application.Tested with self-coded files (Vegas 15) and some movies from the internet. I don't get any load on CPU, and it looks like the streaming just doesn't start. Other codecs are working correctly, and I watch H264 High Full HD with no problems. I really want to get it working, because some new releases are in H265, and I am thinking about purchasing of last gen Chromecast and 4K TV by Sony or Sharp. The server plays H265 from the same files locally in MPC with no problems. 2) Does Emby transcode for the DLNA sharing? I am asking this, because I have a bit old, but nice working TV by Philips from 2010, which still gives good video quality, but his smart is dumb as hell. He finds the Emby, I am able to browse files, but all mp4 and MKVs are unsupported to play. Same thing with my Xbox 360 - I am able to connect in the android app, xbox tries to play, and then says "unsupported file". I was able to play only one 640x480 AVI file. Also I tried to setup those thing with WMC method, but I haven't got any luck with installing of it in 2012 R2. And Xbox works with PS3 Media Server, but it sucks, because it can't use hardware acceleration on my system, and I don't know why. Video starts to shutter with a different time intervals, that's why I want to use only Emby anywhere. Well, thank you, and I am waiting for your suggestions.Best wishes,- Dmitriy.
adrianwi 279 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 The AMD processor in that HP N40L really isn't up to transcoding, and I found it struggled with a single 1080p file when I used one some years ago.
DarkJoney 0 Posted June 14, 2018 Author Posted June 14, 2018 adrian, yeah, I was able to drive only SD IPTV on it's CPU. But, when I got 1030 for it, it started to play everything, except H265.
Luke 42083 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Hi, for #1, is this a Gen 1 Chromecast? If i had to guess, your Chromecast doesn't support h265, and your server isn't fast enough to convert it. That means your options are converting the media ahead of time using our Convert feature, or you could pick up a Chromecast Ultra which supports hevc.
Luke 42083 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 2) Does Emby transcode for the DLNA sharing? Yes but Emby needs to know what devices support via our dlna profile system. If we don't a profile for your device, then this might lead you into thinking that it's not going to work. What it really means is that we just haven't personally tested with your device and therefore haven't worked out what it's requirements are.

But isn't transcoding made to convert H265 to something viewable by Chromecast, huh? I thought that it will work in a such way, but in reality I get failed loading. and your server isn't fast enough to convert it. I know, but I purchased it used for 35$ With CPU only I was able to watch only SD IPTV channels, now, with 1030 I run any BDRips and Remuxes which I have on it to my Chromecast... Of cource, H264 files. we just haven't personally tested with your device Never mind Philips, Xbox is not working too, don't you have profile for it? Are listing Xbox at your home page... Must I get rid off Server 2012 and use WMC extender? Because it just shows "unsupported" for any mp4 or mkv file, looks like DLNA transcoding is broken, and I have to purchase one more Chromcast for the apartment..... Edited June 15, 2018 by DarkJoney
dansblackcat 37 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 (edited) WMC extender is terrible on Xbox 360, I really recommend avoiding it. I ended up converting all my x265 files to H264 back when there was compatibility issues with Roku. I was never able to get them to direct play on either my Chromecast or my Roku. Luke 42083 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 We don't have profiles for Phillips or Xbox 360 right now.
DarkJoney 0 Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 We don't have profiles for Phillips or Xbox 360 right now. Can I make my own with blackjack and hookers?
Luke 42083 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Phillips yes, but Xbox 360 does things differently and would require our involvement. It would need both a profile as well as new development.
DarkJoney 0 Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 Luke, I see, thank you very much, I decided to get one more CCast a bit later, because with Emby it works perfectly.
DarkJoney 0 Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 BTW, do you have support of the cheap EZCast or simillar dongles?
Luke 42083 Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Does it mimic the Chromecast api? if it does then it may just work. We'll have to look into it. Thanks.
DarkJoney 0 Posted June 16, 2018 Author Posted June 16, 2018 Luke, that it: https://www.ezcast.com/product/ezcastThe first version looked exactly as a 1st gen Chromecast, and had 600 mhz CPU. It looks like that it has it's own software. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9768N0-Ilg
