Huge amount of system resources

Hi,

Over all love the program...but.

When I open the server in chrome, it opens up chrome and according to Task manager, 7 instances of chrome open up. Between the 7 instances and the embry server, it is using a lot of resources.  I have a 4790k processor and 16 gigs of ram, so normally never have an issue with resources.

If I play an HD video in embry it stutters horribly.

If I have embry open but play the video  in VLC, the video plays fine.

Any suggestions?

I would love to keep embry but need the videos to play well.  What can I do to fix this issue?

Sorry that is the way browsers are designed these days.

example from one of my machines

Chrome 1 tabs opened 6 sub-instances

Edge     4 tabs opened 14 sub-instances

Firefox  4 tabs opened 7 sub-instances

Stuttering could be many things.  I assume the transcoding process is what is eating resources, but you would need to post a server log and ffmpeg log if present.

Hi,

I just recreated the issue. Played a 1080p 264 file. My server is directly hooked to my UHD TV, I would think since it  a direct HDMI hook up  there would not be transcoding?

Attached files.

Again, VLC plays it fine.

Any idea what the issue is? How to fix?

Thanks

What app are you playing it with on the TV?

The log shows you are only converting audio as ac3 is not supported in client used for playback.  Only browser that I know of that supports ac3 is Edge.

Stream mapping:
  Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy)
  Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (eac3 (native) -> mp3 (libmp3lame))

I am using emby server direct. Is that what you mean?  I have two screens on my server, a 23 inch one, and my 60 inch UHD that is connected via HDMI. Is there a better way to do it?

So the web app in other words?

If you're using the web app, there is currently no web browser that can direct play the file. Only MS Edge can direct play the ac3 audio, but it doesn't support the mkv container. Chrome supports mkv, but not the ac3 audio.

Does this answer your question?

That helps... so you are saying the webapp is not capable of playing the files. What can I do to play my files then?

Is there an emby that is not a webapp? or some other way to play them?

The web app can direct play whatever the browser supports. So check the supported media formats of the browser that you're using.

Since you're on Windows, you could try our Emby Theater windows app, which can direct play that:

Thanks.

Thanks, I guess I will try theater... it would be nice to be able to test it to see if it works before paying for premier.

You can. It will allow you to browse around and play for one minute.

Can you try another video file? You may also want to go into the app's audio settings and configure your speaker  layout.

Update... the media player worked better than the chrome app.. but not much better.

The Nvidia Shield worked great in the other room. My main TV is an LG with Webos, I downloaded the emby app and that is now working great... but still if I play a file through the servers video card to my LG, the video looks fine but the audio is off.

I will just use the webos app so its fine,

Thanks for your help.

I may ask for it again in another post for another issue.
