Conversion from SAGETV

Hi,

 

 I have used sage since... 2002 I believe. Have a ton of old recordings. Trying out Emby and so far love it. 

 

 I was wondering, all my sage recordings are named in the format:

 

SaturdayNightLive-TiffanyHaddishTaylorSwift-1072771-0

 

or 

 

FixerUpper-AustinCoupleFindsWacoCharm-905461-0

 

Is  there a way to update all of these, change the names, search and download  the meta data etc?

 

Can emby do it? or do you know of another software to do it?

 

 

Also, I have the free version now, Live tv works, will most likely pay for the premier for the DVR functions, but wanted to ask, how does it work compared to SAGETV?

 

Also... Have not downloaded the adroid app yet, is  that capable of remote controling the server in my living room where my emby is housed?

 

Any other suggestions for simple and easy remote control of the emby server?

 

I see some people use kodi on top of emby, how come? What are the advantages?

You'll need to manually change those shows in the Emby metadata editor, then it'll correctly scan them in.  Yes, you can administer your server from any of the apps.  Sage and Emby guide UI/functionality are very similar, I like Emby better.  Some use Kodi because they are either used to it or like the experience better.  I prefer Emby's UI.  No advantages with Kodi other than it's customizable, but it's also lacking a live tv guide.

That sounds like you are saying Emby doesn't have a live TV Guide, which of course it does.

- That SageTV naming scheme is pretty strange, not sure why they went that direction - But yes, the best thing for you to do is rename all those files to something more universal -->sereiesname.SxxExx.episodename works for everything I have tried. Now how you get the actual renaming done in this case is going to be difficult, and I don't have an answer for you - possibly The Bulk Rename Utility, but there is going to be a lot of manual intervention required. If it is a large library it will take a lot of time. But there may be a way I am unaware of out there. I do not think any of the usual renamers - TheRenamer, Renamer, Filebot etc will be of much use with that sageTV naming format. 

 

Do you know if the files contain metadata embedded in them?

 - SageTV is comparable to Emby LiveTV/DVR function - Most things that SageTV has Emby also does. This biggest missing piece in Emby is keyword recording, though it may at some point in the future also find it's way into Emby.
