Error: The parameter is incorrect.

For some reason, the notification icon stopped launching the server.

I can access from the browser normally but when I launch it from notification tray, I get an error dialog box saying http://localhost:8096/web/index.html. The parameter is incorrect.

Launching the exact same link in the browser works normally and I am able to access the server.

Here is the screenshot of the error I am getting:

Windows 10 Insider Build. Version 1803. OS Version: 17677.1000.

Yes. It is fully up to date as per windows update.

Ok I haven't seen this before so I'm not quite sure what to say. Make sure you have a default browser configured.

The default web browser is Google Chrome. I tried changing it to Firefox and it did not work. I changed it back to Chrome and it still is not working. Very weird indeed!

Just finished with running the checks and fixing, restarted, and I still have the same issue.

I will run a full system AV and Malware scan to see if that fixes anything. If it does not qork, I will probably uninstall and reinstall and see if that solves the problem.

It may also be the insider build itself. I know there is a new build for the fast ring (I am on slow) and it may have something to do with it.

Unfortunately the new build breaks other apps and thus I cannot update for now. It is not a deal-breaking bug after all.

Thanks for the help Luke. I will keep this thread updated if anything changes on my end.

EDIT: AV and Malware scan yielded nothing.

EDIT 2: I uninstalled Emby and installed the beta version. The error presists. The only possible culprit in my opinion is the insider build.

Ah yes it could be the insider build. Thanks.

What version number is it?

I am using version 1803, build 178677. I know version 17686 is out for the fast ring but I am unable to use that because it breaks other software for me.

This bug may br non-existent on the other builds but I will not be able to check for now.

I updated a vm to Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17686.1003] and had no issues with Emby.

Have you tried reinstalling from the download page?

I updated my Windows Insider to Build 17686. I got the error. I did a complete uninstall via Revo and did a fresh installation (I am using beta so the version installed is: 3.4.1.14 beta). Unfortunately, the error persists. And I am out of ideas on how to attempt to fix this error. It is not a big deal but it is annoying every time I try to launch from the notification tray, I get that error!

Has your AV or malware software flagged the Emby tray software Electron?

Not really, Task Manager shows two Electron processes and I am using Bitdefender and no records of blocking it.

But should it show two processes?

Yes two processes is normal.  Not sure of anything else that could cause this, as I can't reproduce it.

Are you doing any other webpage redirecting?

Nothing really. The link opens fine in the browser. It is just the icon from the notification tray that is having issues.

Try putting the link into the windows run dialog box.

You mean the link (without quotes): "localhost:8096/web/index.html"?

I get a dialog asking what application to open with but no choices apart from "Look for an app in the Microsoft Store".

I noticed in the browser that when I put: "localhost:8096/web/index.html" it redirects to "localhost:8096/web/home.html" even though I do not have any web redirection configured. Could that be the issue?

So it sounds like you don't have a default browser configured.

Here is the registry entry as well:

Anything else I need to check?

Unfortunately at this point I don't know the answer as to what's going on. All we're really doing is using a windows command to launch a url. It is supposed to take it from there and open your default browser to that location.

I am currently checking http and https associations in registry. I will report back if I figure something out. Thanks to everyone who have contributed thus far.

Is it not prefixed with http or https?

I am now having the same issue, only My emby server icon shows in task bar, but, when i double click it, i get the error as everyone else - http://localhost:8096/web/index.html the parameter is incorrect

I do have the default browser sorted, but, i am on windows insider build 10.0.17692.1004 (RS_PRERELEASE_FLT)

I have emby as a shortcut in my browser that works just fine, but as I have just said, it wont launch from the task bar at all.

Cheers.
