Hello, everybody,

a few weeks ago the update came to 3.4.0.0 and then 3.4.1.0 which crashed my server. Crash is exaggerated, the dashboard and the client hung up. I send a screenshot in the attachment.

Thereupon I am back to version 3.3.1.0 and now I finally managed to set up a test server to have a closer look at the problem again.

The test server is an Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2 with 12 cores and 64 GB RAM.

I have now installed the latest beta version and the problem still exists.

You can set everything and use the dashboard, but once a video is played, it hangs up. I have to kill both emby and ffmpeg in the task manager.

Maybe someone can help me with the problem.

Many thanks

Hi, I notice you customized the transcoding temp folder. Try resetting that back to default. Thanks.

Can you try playing a different file?

Can you try playing something that's not located on your e: drive?

I tried to play from c: and d:

same problem

info for you:

c: -> system SSD

d: -> SSD for emby files like cache etc.

e: -> array with hdd

i don't have any idea what the problem could be, everything works fine in dashboard until you start a movie.

after emby hung up you are also not able to quit emby with the tray icon, you have to use the task manager and kill the process and also ffmpeg.

Is windows fully up to date?

Posted

yes, last update installed 2 days ago and last time checked for new updates 2 hours ago

I'm not sure then at this point, sorry. It looks like ffmpeg is causing some kind of stall that is bringing everything to a halt.

just for info, i have a second server with same hardware and there is version 3.3.1.0 running and everything works well. and also on this server 3.3.1.0 has worked without problem as I tested before I installed the newer version

is version 3.3.1.0 running another ffmpeg version and is it possible to use that older version of ffmpeg in version 3.4.1.11 ?

forget the question, i replaced the ffmpeg and ffprobe file from the older version in the system folder and the problem is still the same...

I'm afraid I'm not sure at this point.

if there's anything else that comes to your mind that I can test or rearrange, please let me know.

Maybe there is someone with server 2016 where it works, then maybe it's something about the system.

The event log shows at least no errors.

FWIW I am running Emby server under Windows Server 2016 without any issue.

Currently running v3.4.1.11 beta.

You may also want to consider hardware diagnostics to check for a possible hardware failure.

where exactly could my problem be, I have 2 servers with windows 2016 and both have the problem. Maybe I should say that I only use the onboard graphics card, does that matter?

CPU works fine, memory is checked, it's ECC RAM, Harddisks and SSDs are all new and don't show any error. What else can I check or have forgotten?

I'm a little unsure at this point as we haven't seen this before. You may still want to run hard drive scans.

What disk storage system are you using?

Is it just NTFS drives, raid or pooling?

My server is fairly stock, with just DriveBender pooling storage.

I don't use any GPU transcoding, as the server only has a basic GPU, but 99.9% of my content is Direct Streamed, with the remainder just an occasional audio remux.

SMART Status shows everything is ok, chkdsk on system SSD is fine, no error. MegaRAID Controller shows everything is ok.

I have a new unpacked SSD, I will clone the system to the new SSD and check again, but I think that will make no difference.

I have a system SSD and a SSD for emby data / cache connected to SATA port directly on the motherboard.

For media files I use a MegaRAID 9361-8i Controller RAID 6 configured with HGST drives, all together about a week old.

All volumes are NTFS format.

what else can be the difference between your and my system? have you something special configured or installed on your server 2016?

No, nothing extra installed.

Perhaps @@PenkethBoy might have an idea, as he runs Emby under Server 2012r2.

As an initial test - can you install vlc and play a video ok directly on the server - so no emby involvement

also this is Server 2016 with the full gui - i.e. not the core version
