ThePaladinTech 22 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Hi, I have an a roku cds ( no worky with mb3) and I got my mom a roku 3 ... My only use will be for streaming video and audio. Does anyone have opinions on 2 vs 3 for this use? I'm torn as its only 30 bucks... But 30 x 3? Thanks for any input. Sent from my Lumia 920 using Tapatalk
gcw07 347 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Personally I say the 3. Not only because it supports the most channels and the latest stuff like the latest Netflix interface and Youtube, but it also won't go out of date as fast. Plus the Ethernet port on the 3. It is going to work a lot better with a solid wired connection then a wireless one and that is the only option you have with the 2. So at least with the 3 you have both options.
christoph86 12 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Go with the Roku 3. You can get it refurbished at newegg for 69.99. I got one of these and works great.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 (edited) I would recommend the 3 as well. The Ethernet port alone makes it worth it. Edited March 29, 2014 by Wayne Luke
lordbond 2 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 This is strange since I have both a 2 and a 3. Right now I am using the 2 because I am getting better video with no buffering on the 2 using wireless then I am on the 3 does either on wireless or wired. I also have some shows that will play fine on the 2 but not on the 3.When I get more time I am going to run some more tests and report in the thread to see if anyone has any ideas.
sfnetwork 514 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 (edited) 3 all the way, Roku 2 is in this middle with still high price but compromises... (by the way it's 20$ difference) And 2 doesn't support New Netflix interface and YouTube channel (if i'm not mistaking)... (plus ethernet option, faster, etc...) In my mind (my preferences) the options for HTPC are (depending on budget): -Chromecast / Roku Stick (didn't try but would be curious, I see this like a CC with a remote...) -Roku 3 -Intel NUC / Zotac / Custom HTPC, etc.. If Roku would update their SDK to give better UI options to dev, choice 3 may be much less considered IMO... Edited March 30, 2014 by sfnetwork 1
