New install - Server hangs almost immediately

Hi all,

I've just made a new installation of Emby on my desktop to try and replace Plex, but for some reason, it hangs almost immediately. This happens when I go into the tray and right click it, try to change the settings, stream a movie...pretty much anything will crash it. Strangely, it seems to crash with the same amount of RAM usage by the two "Electron" processes: 14 and 33 mb. Not sure if that's related or not. I tried re-installing but the problem persisted. I'm running Windows 10 1709.

Also, not sure if it's related, but UPnP is not working for Emby. It works perfectly with Plex, so it's not my computer.

Hi.  Does it "hang" or does it "crash"?  Can you please describe exactly what happens?

That log only covers a period of about 2 seconds and doesn't contain any user activity.

Well, the server was refusing to respond very soon after loading into the web interface or right clicking on the tray icon, but it seems I have bigger issues. EmbyServer.exe up and vanished from my HDD and now I can' t reinstall the server, which already seemed to be suffering from other issues. I'll chalk it up to that, I guess.

Do you have anti-virus or malware software?

You are saying the exe file is gone from "C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system", correct?

Can you update Windows 10?

Let me clarify, sorry. I intended to say my hard drive was having issues. Happy2Play - yes, that's correct, that's the right directory.  Luke - I actually can't update Windows. Something is wrong with Windows Update and it has been for a while. I've exhausted pretty much all the fixes I can find for that, so if the forced update through the MS Media Creation Tool doesn't work I will have to reinstall Windows anyway, which will definitely fix this problem.

Ah ok, so the hard drive problem explains it then. The reason other software could be working normally is that might not be hitting the area of the drive where the issue is. Thanks.

I have been having a similar issue as of late.  Emby was giving me problems two days ago so I uninstalled server without erasing the cache or system files.  I go back to reinstall and it fails.

I then delete all the cache, user appdata files, and anything else I can think of.  I was having trouble with the installer so I had to delete the app 2.0 files as well.

Finally I think I have it all and I get a fresh install to work.  Without adding a single media folder or anything, I restart the server within the web interface.  During the reboot the software crashes, the EmbyServer.exe application is missing from the user...appdata/roaming/embyserver/system folder.  I have repeated this 5 times so far with many reboots of the PC in between.

I'm running windows 7 7601 and I scanned all of my harddrives, they are working great.  Not sure if I need to do a fresh windows install and startover from scratch.

That sounds completely different. If the exe file is disappearing that sounds like antivirus software tampering with the emby installation folder.

Thanks for that tip.  For some reason avast had decided to classify embyserver as a generic virus.  I guess someone is trying to hurt emby using the avast database.

Do you have a copy of the virus report from avast that you can share?

Actually this isn't the first time Avast has done this.
