Hello. I installed Emby server on my Raspberry Pi 3. Network all ok. The movies are in 480p/720p quality 1-2gb/movie.

But when I play it on any PC/Phone it is freezing after few minutes etc. Some movies wont even load.

Is there some optimalisation I am missing?

This is from Emby Server 3.3.1. The latest version is 3.4.1.

However, regardless, the problem is that the Pi cannot transcode fast enough. I would suggest limiting your playback to videos that can direct play without transcoding.

You could try uninstalling again and using our newer installation package from the website: https://emby.media/download

That will perform slightly better, but probably still not fast enough. Thanks.

Thanks for answer! Still, why in app it plays all ok? The Pi still encodes it right?

How can I determine which videos can be played without transcoding? I downloaded like 7 different movies all with other formats andd all were lagging (some more, some less).

Because the app can direct play without transcoding.

Or one more question. Is it possible to encode using GPU (with the paid codecs)?

which paid codecs? i'm aware of the mpeg2 decoder for pi but are there any others?

OK but those are just decoders for mpeg2 and vc1. The example you supplied above is h264 input so they wound't even be used with that.
