K22R8CT 25 Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 In the following scenario: Two versions of the same video are available, version A and sync'd version B A is located only in library X B is located only in library Y User's access is limited to library Y The dropdown on the play screen will give the user the option to play version A in library X, even though they shouldn't have access to library X.
Luke 42087 Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Sorry, I don't really see us changing this. This is just getting a little complicated for my comfort level. It's a synced copy, I don't really see why user access matters if you assume that the content is exactly the same.
K22R8CT 25 Posted May 29, 2018 Author Posted May 29, 2018 I feel like my use case is not that uncommon so I must be handling it the wrong way. I have the bandwidth to support a number of external users but not the CPU power. As long as these external users don't transcode the system works. Ideally how should I set that up? My current solution, which is causing these problems, is to prevent transcoding by sharing externally libraries that contain only sync'd files. I've created dedicated libraries for that purpose. The alternative, as far as I understand, is to present my entire library externally but have the majority of it "error out" because transcoding is disabled for external users. Is there an better solution I'm not seeing or a better way to implement my current solution?

In my case the two files are not the same - version A requires transcoding and version B does not.
K22R8CT 25 Posted May 29, 2018 Author Posted May 29, 2018 So is there a better way to accomplish my goal than the way I have it currently, with sync jobs/dedicated libraries/transcoding disabled? If I'm using Emby in a way it's not meant to be used it'll be a constant struggle.
Luke 42087 Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Your best bet is to not create emby libraries based on the folder sync output.
K22R8CT 25 Posted May 29, 2018 Author Posted May 29, 2018 Is there another way to present only direct-play compatible media to particular users?
Luke 42087 Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Well we don't have that kind of filter, so you'll probably want to achieve that with some combination of library organization and/or the user transcoding permissions.
