i noticed alot of my images were 'poor' quality and wanted to just do a full refresh (i recently did the same for all media items metadata)

i renamed the 'people' folder in the metadata path, rescanned etc, and the folder was recreated but no content downloaded

i rebrowsed the library and i see that some people are still appearing (cache?)

whats correct process to redownload all people?

Refresh the metadata of the media that contains those people.

so essentially if i recently did just that - and also ticked the 'replace existing images' the people images should also have been updated anyway?

or do they only update if missing in that circumstance?

It appears they are 'poor' because they are landscaped 'folder.jpg' rather than the newer 'poster.jpg' created when using 'edit images'

so far running a refresh metadata has not brought down the new images - tried both replace all metadata and search for missing metadata

i dont want to replace all images for the tv series etc aswell as it was quite a task to get the images i liked, consistency etc

is there an api way or similiar to refresh just actors, crew, etc?

Was thinking along the lines of calling all series etc, getting the id for each actor, then using that with the /item/refresh call?

Check the metadata settings for your library. If you've disabled metadata providers for your media, then this will also affect people as well.

Nope - i have pretty much all metadata providers turned on for everything

If i go 'edit images' and manually download a new image for an actor it places it in the metadata directory as you described

is it possible that because the items are 'cached' emby still thinks they are there?

ie. even though i moved the folder contents - i can still see the images in the ui

I'm guessing you customized something and if anything we're just guilty of allowing too many options that create scenarios we haven't tested.

At this point, please discuss an example and see how to report a problem. thanks.

I've been tailing the log and all i can see is a search for metadata - no image checks on actors

the only thing i could call 'custom' in this space is the 'IMDB People Downloader' but I thought all it did was place an image in the directory - if i have cleared the directory contents, where is emby pulling the images from

What exactly did you refresh, and from what screen?

The top level of a library (main screen) - one containing approx 30 movies so it wouldnt take as long

I have also tried with library items directly

File not founds are obviously because i renamed the directory - but the new people images dont appear to be coming down.

I've tried refreshing with the 'Refresh All Metadata' and 'Search for missing metadata' (with and without the replace images checked) - i really just want to update the library so i only have portrait images for actors.

Can you try it from emby library setup by clicking the 3-dot menu on a library? thanks.

tested on test machine with small library on current beta server.

I had to nuke the cache folder for people images to redownload.

Steps taken

deleted all People sub-folders

scan library (cached people images existed on all series and Movies via UI, but broken image at actor/person view)

Tried Refreshing all /with replace images at series level and actor level not change (also library level Home Screen and Library setup).

nuked cache sub-folders and people folder was repopulated during the Refresh.

But none of the people pulled any metadata, only images.  Correction, none to the TV Series got metadata, all movies got metadata and images for People.

mich better description than i have managed though essentially you have done exactly as i have

i havent deleted the cache as i didnt want to have to rebuild it all, were there particular folders you blew away?

@@Luke

with all metadata providers enabled would you expect people metadata for tv to redownload aswell?

Posted

Yes I would, but you shouldn't have to delete any folders manually.

Just thought i would give this a crack on the latest release - still having the same issue.

If i need to blow away cache directories to fix this - is there something more direct i could do (certain subfolders) rather than destroying the whole thing?

Posted

I would just refresh the media that contains the people.

I would just refresh the media that contains the people.

Doing so without blowing away the cache has no effect.

Essentially removing all contents of the 'Emby-Server\metadata\People' folder so all people can refresh - but the people data never gets redownloaded.

@@Happy2Play described the process pretty accurately above

Ok then do his steps, and next time I would just leave the People folder alone rather than deleting it.

I havent actually deleted it - its just renamed so i can roll back as i did last time.

I was just wanting to refresh people data as IMDB People Downloader made a bit of a mess of the quality

Do I have to blow away the entire cache and cant just do specific people?

This line from @@Happy2Play was somewhat concerning if taking the deletion path

@@Luke - I guess i will just start from scratch then as a way to clear the library mess

I have two additional questions:

  1. There are 'Series Image Fetchers' and 'Season Image Fetchers' and even 'Movie Image Fetchers'
I assume that the actor image preference is basing off these same settings? Is there any way to specify an order preference for Actor images
  2. In order to rebuild the cache of Actors is there a special url I could hit to display all actors - therefore not needing to access each individual item
I understand this is no longer part of the GUI, but i assume the code was not actually deleted?

For #1 - Yes, and no.

#2 - I don't really understand, sorry.

for #1 i guess i can temporarily change my tv preferences to the moviedb and change back after rebuilding actor images

for #2 - i am asking if there is a way for me to display all actors in my entire emby database, not per movie. I believe this was removed from the GUI but hoping either the code still has a special entry there so i could manually hit something like http://emby:8096/web/index.html#!/itemdetails.html?page=actors

Would it even be possible to simply find the relative html page in the github repository and manually roll that file back temporarily?

There currently is no way. The old html will not work anymore.
