Bulk removal of info

Is there a way to bulk remove the certain aspects of the presented info?

I want to remove the "people" info from my whole library, as well as other unwanted info that just clutters the screen.

I've used the Main LOCK button to so call "Lock" the parent folders, but the information is still added after doing a metadata refresh.

And I've even unchecked all the metadata fields I don't want populated, but they still get filled after a refresh.

I've manually been removing the info I don't want presented each time I add new content, but this is like the nth time Emby decided to just add what it want's to my entire library.

use the lock metadata option for the movies/episodes you edit to stop it changing

Where are you using the lock option?

I'm locking the Root Folders/Parent Folders, but is doesn't seem to be passing the locks too the child items.

As from the Pic #1, the parent folders are completely locked, unlocking it shows NO fields are chosen Pic #2.

But in Pic #3, ALL child items inside the parent folders are unlocked.

They don't seem to be inheriting the parent locks. Bug?

It's not possible to bulk edit metadata. It's been a feature that has been requested for years. Locking the metadata is a manual process that won't stop Emby from populating the metadata automatically incorrectly in the first place. It isn't a problem if you only have one or two videos that you want to edit in the same way... But when you have hundreds or thousands ... On top of new content being added ... It is a significant problem that bulk editing should address.

I agree with timid1 100%

There needs to be features/options that we can disable or remove completely from the emby framework.

90% of the information emby fills in is unwanted by me.

With a library of thousands of videos, manually having to go back and edit them is NOT Ideal.

And with no options to disable features is the main reason I have no plans on purchasing an emby license.

If I'm going to spend $100 on emby, I need to be able to admin, modify, or remove fields the way I want.

+1 for batch metadata editing

Even a simple "Delete/remove (all) metadata" button in the Metadata Manager for each file would solve 80% of my personal use cases (my file name is all the info I rely upon); better yet the same button for a folder which applies recursively

Cheers

PS If anyone is using other software to do this I would love to know it

It's something we're interested in for the future. Thanks !

del /s yourpath\*.nfo

Would delete all nfo files in the given yourpath (e.g. D:\Video or \\server\share\dir).

There's a couple problems here.  Even if you knew your way around the command line (Unix, on OS X is based, is not really that much different than Windows conceptually), that that only helps you with existing metadata.  Any NEW media you add will perpetuate the issues you were trying to avoid.

Bulk editing has been a fairly frequent request ... for years (all with the same response: good idea or would like to implement, but no real commitment).  Aside, I suspect what you're asking for is a little different than what I asked for in that you want to clear metadata for ONE piece of media as opposed to hundreds or thousands of existing media, with new media being added regularly.

P.S.--Since you're running OS X, you'll need to drop down to the terminal.  The command you'd be interested in is rm.  If you don't want to drop down to the terminal, use the Finder to find all NFO in your media directory and its sub-directories and just delete them.  But again, this probably won't solve your problem because Emby will just re-create it.  Here's a link on how to use rm: https://www.macworld.com/article/2082021/master-the-command-line-deleting-files-and-folders.html

I'm familiar with CLI

If the metadata is stored as separate files I imagine one could create a cron shell script to automate the removal of these files at timed intervals. I would have to know how/where metadata is stored first.

FYI There are no NFO files in OS X

I stand corrected, there appears to be a checkbox[x] setting when creating a library to choose to save metadata to NFO in OS X

NB This setting is off by default

I've tested it but can't see any NFO files - how does this setting work or feel free to point me at documentation?

Yours hopefully

After you save the setting, future save operations will create nfo files for your media. Does that answer your question?

Where are NFO files stored because if it's the same location as the updated file then this isn't working for me?

Right next to your video files in the original media folders. You will need to keep in mind two things before you say "not working":

  • Emby Server needs write access to your media folders in order for this to succeed

And second:

You're running the server on MacOS? You need to make sure the MacOS user that is running Emby Server has write access to your media folders.

Hi Luke,

Apologies for delay - I needed to wait before adding new files to inspect NFO working; which it is

My last question is when Metadata Manager is used where is Emby storing the updated meta data?:

a) in the file itself
B) in an Emby data store
c) in the NFO files
d) some of or all

If documentation exists then feel free to link me else can something on this topic be added to the documentation?

Hope this is clear and to hear back

Keep up good work!

Thanks (in advance)

PS You need to update your https://ckeditor.com/ - that's a terrible emoticon syntax

In both places.

Hmm, which "both places" - I gave more than two options
