Does the "Save artwork into media folders" option disable the saving of metadata to the custom metadata location?

Scenario:

* I have my custom metadata location set to C:\EmbyMetadata

* Every library on my server has the "Save artwork into media folders" option checked

I do a scan of "Replace all metadata" with the replace images option checked and it is downloading all the library artwork to the C:\EmbyMetadata location.  I expected to see maybe a few images, such as the library's cover (the composite image created of several items in library), but not every poster.jpg.

Does Emby require a copy in the metadata folder AND the media folder?  I was under the assumption that a single copy would be kept - if this is wrong, that's fine, but I want to make sure I'm doing it right.

The cache (and database) is where emby serves up its data from when accessing the server through a client (web app, android app, etc..).  The metadata saved in media folders is where emby would read data from during a library scan, or write data (alongside the cache and database) when a title is refreshed or edited.

So in my case, I will always have data under C:\EmbyMetadata\metadata\library\ ?  Is this \metadata\library\ folder the "cache" ?  Thanks.

No it is not the cache.  There is a cache folder.

The only thing that should be in your C:\EmbyMetadata\library is chapter images when this option checked.

Emby will read from one or the other depending on your setting.

I guess technically both as you can change this setting at any time and changes only apply to new media.

Thanks - I can't seem to get it to stop populating all art into the C:\EmbyMetadata\library folder.  I even removed and re-added the library.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point.

Okay, I was able to correct this issue - I believe.  It seems that you can't have custom metadata location AND store metadata in the library folders enabled at the same time... or at least not enabled in the order that I enabled them.

I have removed the custom metadata location, went through each library, and unchecked/re-checked each "Save artwork into media folders" folder and now it appears to be working as intended.

Thanks all.

Nevermind - it's still not working as expected.

You can configure both that but doesn't mean it will save in both. If you enable saving in library folders then that always takes priority.

Yeah, you're right. I forgot that there was the separate custom metadata folder and was thinking that he had set the Cache folder location.
