Hello,

Is there a way to tell the W10 application to only sync while connected to Wi-Fi? My windows 10 laptop has LTE built-in and emby seems to be using it to complete the synced item transfer.

Currently we let windows decide when the background transfers occur but yes we can look at adding a setting for this in a future update. Thanks.

Thanks.  I'm new to Emby and thus far it has been an excellent experience.

I'm curious about the sync jobs.  Do I have to keep the application in the foreground for it to sync? it seems that when I'm doing other things on the computer it stops (according to the network traffic monitor).  In some cases I have to go to Settings-->Manage Download to get the sync to start.  Is there another way to get it to start? or a timer?

No, you don't have to keep it in the foreground but Windows might be pausing it if thinks other applications need the resources. I wonder if there's a windows setting that could be used to prevent this from happening.

Also, if I leave Emby open and go into standby it doesn't seem to start the download again until I either go to the Settings-->Manage Download page or close and reopen the app

It will run periodically, however as mentioned, Windows may decide to skip over one of the runs if it thinks system resources are needed elsewhere.

We're planning on a taking a trip soon and wanted to bring a couple laptops on the airplane.  In the past erratic sync behavior has taught me just to copy the files over the old fashioned way and leave Emby Theater out of it.  What is the state of sync today?  I'm planning to plug a couple Windows 10 laptops into my ethernet switch and let them sync overnight.  Presuming that is what will actually happen.

Also, where do the files end up?  How do I remove the sync'd files from within Emby so as to free up the disk space on the client when I am done?

Thanks,

You can configure the download location from inside the app, so they'll go wherever you like.

Can the downloads be deleted or managed in any way from inside Emby Theater?  Stopped if an error was made?

Yes you can both play and delete downloads from inside emby theater.

This doesn't seem to be the case.  If Emby Theater can't connect to the server it won't do anything, including play previously-downloaded content.  Tried to use it on the airplane, wouldn't get past "can't connect to the server".

Fortunately other video players were installed, but as an offline as well as online solution, Emby isn't there yet.  If one wants to watch content without the server, don't try to do it with Emby.  The old way of manually transferring files and using a reliable player like MPC-BE is still the way to go.

Instead of trying to connect to a server, there is a My Downloads button on the server selection screen that will allow you to play without a connection.

On Emby Theater desktop 3.01 there is no such option.

Also tried an iOS client, iPad air running iOS 11.4.  Here there is an option to play downloads . . .  if one can get them to the iPad.  A workaround that is fine for the PC; copy and play with another player, is not so easily available for the iPad.  I was able to get a couple movies transcoded and transferred to the iPad.  But when I deleted those movies downloaded to the ipad to free up space and tried to copy a couple more it failed.  The first movie transcoded, then just shows "ready to transfer" for the movie that was already transcoded.  The second movie is "queued".  I notice when the screen times out on the ipad Emby Server no longer shows it as connected.

Not sure what is going on here but transferring of the transcoded movies doesn't appear to happen reliably.  One movie might transfer, but the rest will languish.

I know Emby is a major software project, and the offline aspect may not be the highest priority.  And I guess that is fine by me, it certainly isn't they way I use Emby the most.  When resources do become available this is one aspect of the software that doesn't quite work.

Correct, only the windows store app has this feature, as far as windows apps go.

As far as iOS goes, yes we are aware that the progress display for downloads needs to be improved and this is something we're working on. Thanks.

I think there is more to it than just a progress indicator, the actual progress towards completing the download is not happening.

May I suggest the menu option in Emby Theater (desktop) offering to download media locally for playback is somewhat deceiving, as apparently this function is not functional.

When I tried to use it Emby Theater crashed, I had to sign out to recover.

How exactly did you create the crash?

I navigated to a recorded TV show I wanted to download using a laptop from outside my network, clicked the three-dot menu, and selected download.

This happened at the individual episode level or series level?

An individual episode.

If you try again, does it happen again? I tested this right after you mentioned it and didn't see any problems. Thanks.
