Quick Sync Vs nvsync clarification

Hello I'm currently using a I7 4790K and was trying to determine if it made sense to use Quick Sync / processor or using a graphics card. Based on my research, I found

Geforce 10xx can handle 2 remote transcodes at the same time. AMD cards can handle more, but quality not as good as Geforce cards. Quick Sync also doesn't have a limit on remote transcodes, except for what the CPU can handle.

Is this correct or am I off?

The reason for my inquiry was when I used Emby dvr, when I skipped thru commercials, it would take 30 seconds to start playing after each skip. My thought was maybe using a graphics card, might help with speeding this up using Emby theater on Xbox one. It sounds like a graphics card wouldn't really help with this. I also thought about allowing some of my family to view the library remotely.

Another item was the thought of replacing the setup because of the 2 security bugs and was thinking of switching to Ryzen 1600 or 1700.

This all being said, based on the comparison, it seems that it make sense to use a newer Intel cpu, assuming the bugs gets fixed.

How many simultaneous transcodes are you going to be needing?

Actually, that CPU should have enough oomf! Have you tried cranking up the transcode settings, in the server?.

There are a lot of potential causes for delays after seeking like that, with transcoding speed being one of them.  ffmpeg logs would probably help narrow it down a bit to eliminate things like timestamp discontinuity or the use of slower seek methods (-ss after the input file rather than before).  My processor is older than yours, though, and 30sec delays seem excessive even to me, so something else may be going on with the files themselves or with the transcode process that using a GPU may not help fix.

FWIW - I have the 4790s and can skip through a transcode stream with only a small delay- second or two (using the web app) - i dont use qsync though thats turned off

this even works only slightly slower if my server with the 4790s is doing a full Handbrake transcode at the same time

I have the transcoding option set to default, with the exception of having Quick Sync selected. I will say that having Quick Sync or the default didn't seem to have any difference

Number of people for access could be 3 to 5

I'll have to see if I'm seeing the 30 second delay if watching directly from the computer itself, since I'm currently using an Xbox one.
